Augustin Jerome Iturbide

Emperor Augustin Iturbide

Augustin Jerome Iturbide was the son of Augustin Iturbide, conservative claimant Emperor of Mexico  and Leader of the Conservative Opposition against his wife, Empress Maria Guerrero. The marriage between Augustin and Maria was a peace arrangement between their fathers following the ensuing civil war between the liberal ruling House Guerrero and the conservative opposition led by House Iturbide. The two were intended to rule as co-rulers, but this never came to be. Upon the death of his father-in-law, Emperor Vicente Guerrero in 1841, he declared war on his wife in order to take the crown for himself. He was defeated and subsequently executed in 1843.
