Tanaya Nethlaia
Lady Warden Tanaya Nethlaia (a.k.a. Owain's Shadow, the Faceless One, the Pink Lady, the Vigilant, the Warden)
The least known member of Whiteport’s inner council, Tanaya Inferni serves Duke Owain as mistress of Whispers. A tiefling of about thirty years old, Tanaya is secretive and suspicious as a result of growing up in Whiteport’s criminal underbelly, and even the inner council struggles to know her mind, and she possesses an uncanny knack for simply disappearing. However, she has proven herself to be a loyal servant of Duke Owain after he took her onto the council as a former insider, and a close friend of Rhiannon Bronzecourt, assuaging any suspicions of her intent or loyalty, and has since turned her skills for espionage into an art and for more noble purposes, building a covert network known as the Vigilant who act as her eyes and ears throughout Attica.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Tanaya is surprisingly tall for a Tiefling woman, and when combined with her pale, rosy, skin, gives her an imposing, alien beauty. She moves with almost catlike grace and a sort of practiced nonchalance, moving as silently as a shadow, clearly ready to spring into action at a moment's notice. If needed, Tanaya is capable of impressive feats of acrobatic prowess and physical strength.
Body Features
Tanaya has pale, rosy pink skin and bluish white hair, which she typically keeps in a loose bun. Small horns curl up from her forehead and wrap backwards, and she keeps them wrapped in a small silver jewelry chain. Her tail is often kept wrapped around her waist like a belt and is prehensile. She has a lean figure, like a dancer.

Tanaya has a relatively narrow face and large eyes. Her nose is small and round.

Tanaya has a scar across her upper back from when she was attacked for being a tiefling, as well as a long scar running across her palm from her adventuring days.

Tanaya has an alert posture, and those who watch carefully will notice she periodically checks her surroundings and her ears will twitch at sudden noises.

Apparel & Accessories
Tanaya's usually wears fairly elegant but versatile clothes, and she almost always carries accessories that can alter the appearance of the clothing to fit her surroundings in order to blend in with the highest and lowest members of society. Her clothing is usually concealed underneath her cloak. Two silver chains are wrapped around her horns, her only obvious pieces of jewelry, and these chains were heirlooms from her mother. Tanaya also wears simple studded earrings in her earlobes and has two cartilage piercings on her left ear.
Specialized Equipment
Most apparently, Tanaya wears a beautiful Cloak of Elvenkind and Boots of Elvenkind, and these are among her most prized possessions, enabling her to move totally silently and blend into almost any environment. The cloak seems to magically shift and blend into its surroundings seamlessly, making it hard to distinguish Tanaya's form from her surroundings even when she is standing in plain view, and her Boots of Elvenkind appear to be normal riding boots, but are absolutely silent. Beneath her cloak, Tanaya usually wears simple, reversible clothing, and a small, rune inscribed amulet which functions as an Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location, as well as a Ring of Mind Shielding, which is worn under her soft, white leather gloves (which are in fact Gloves of Thievery) which she rarely removes and are one of her most prized possessions. She typically also carries a small packet of Dust of Disappearance which she saves for only the most dire of circumstances.
Tanaya also carries the typical practical items of her trade, though she almost always prefers to avoid combat. On her right hip she carries a small hand crossbow and a small leather bracer is strapped around her left thigh, holding five more crossbow bolts in place. Hidden, she also carries three daggers, one in each boot, and one strapped to her forearm. She also always carries a bag of 1000 ball bearings and another small pouch of caltrops, a coin purse containing 100 gold pieces (usually used for bribery), thieves tools, and a disguise kit, and a mask.

Personal history
Tanaya was born to a Tiefling father and human mother. Her parents were killed by a lynch mob, when she was a teenager, as the local townsfolk suspected them of being Drakehoff agents due to their infernal heritage. Tanaya's mother hid her in a barrel, enabling Tanaya to escape the lynch mob, but she was forced to watch from the shadows and still feels guilty about her inaction.
After a brief career with the clasp, Tanaya joined an adventuring party, accruing a small fortune as well as a number of valuable magic items, including her prized boots and cloak of Elvenkind. After a few years as an adventurer when Tanaya honed her espionage abilities, she founded the Vigilant.
In founding the Vigilant, Tanaya hoped to create an organization that works to protect everyday people and stop the spread of evil.

Tanaya considers her inability to stop her parent's deaths her only great failure, and the powerful loss she felt in the aftermath has guided her path ever since.

Tanaya was scarred at a young age after watching both her parents lynched. As a result, she fears large crowds and suffers from recurring nightmares. She still feels guilty that she did not prevent their deaths,

Tanaya is extremely intelligent and is a master of keeping track of multiple plots at once, enabling her to often think one or two steps ahead of her opponents. She enjoys solving puzzles and has an analytical and observant mind, making her a talented investigator.

Given her troubled past, it is surprising that Tanaya has a distinctly optimistic view of others. While she is not naive, Tanaya always prefers to assume a person's best intentions, although she keeps to a code of "trust but verify." Tanaya believes that people are fundamentally good and just need to have better angels on their side than demons, and so Tanaya seeks to help people and keep them safe from the things that would threaten their lives and create fear.

Tanaya is an accomplished rogue. She is an excellent makeup and disguise artist, and is one of the finest espionage agents in Kethencia. Very few know her origins or her true identity. She is a masterful lock picker and thief, and is also an effective scout and spy. Tanaya can also hold her own in combat, and while she prefers to charm and talk her way out of conflict, she is a formidable opponent.

Tanaya generally keeps fastidiously clean (which she claims is a relic from growing up), and typically smells like lavender and lilacs. Occasionally she may forget to fully remove the makeup for a disguise or will intentionally dirty herself for the sake of a deception.
