Kingdom of Zolirak

Introduction

Governed by the Roloren dynasty and a council of high mages, Zolirak was founded in the wake of the united Kena’an empire’s fall and the death of its last emperor, Agion Condore. It was then that the newfound kingdom of Zolirak emerged as a bastion of elven resilience and arcane mastery.

The elves of Zolirak, though admired for their magical prowess and timeless beauty, are often seen by outsiders as prideful and aloof- a perception not entirely unfounded. Their long lifespans grant them unparalleled patience and wisdom but leave them slow to adapt to the ever-changing world around them. While nature plays a vital role in their identity, only certain sub-races, such as the Terran-Elves, hold deep ties to the woodland. For most, it is the arcane that binds them, an eternal focus that shapes their culture, politics, and way of life.

Surrounded by the human Keraian Empire, the Undead Kingdom of Myltery, and the Frozen Lands of Ekiran, Zolirak is a small, but fiercely defended, realm. Its enchantments and fortifications stand as testaments to the elves’ vigilance, honed by centuries of isolation and conflict. Yet, beneath their seclusion lies a kingdom brimming with life, where ancient traditions endure, and the echoes of Lessien, Zolirak’s first queen, still guide her people’s enduring spirit.

Geography

Zolirak is a land of towering forests, ancient mountains, and tranquil lakes, where nature and magic exist in harmonious balance. To the north lies the Shadowpine Forest, a mysterious and dark realm, rumored to be haunted by ancient spirits and the subject of countless legends. To the south, the Eldergrove stands as an ancient sanctuary, home to the Terran-Elves and their millennia-old trees, deeply rooted in the land's natural magic.

In the heart of Zolirak lies the Auric Bastion, a massive stone wall built to control the passage to the hostile Frozen Lands of Ekiran. This formidable structure guards against the Glaciarc tribes- giant-like creatures from the north who pose a constant threat. The kingdom is further divided by two major mountain ranges: the Elarian Mountains to the south, an extension of the Dragonspire range from Keraian, which are less imposing but still a significant natural barrier; and the Frostpeak Mountains to the north, high and inhospitable, serving as another defense against the Glaciarcs.

Two large lakes grace the land: Lurien, the largest, situated in the northeast, and Eldoria, near the Eldergrove, with a mist-covered island at its center that is a place of legend. Three major rivers wind through the kingdom, providing vital water sources to its people.

The Sapphire hills to the east offer stunning vistas, with breathtaking views of the vast Oceara Ocean beyond. This natural beauty is mirrored by the kingdom’s settlements, with the grand city of Aeloria as the heart of Zolirak, and the other cities of Duralis and Varindor, which serve as cultural and defensive strongholds. Smaller towns, villages and hamlets are scattered across the land, each contributing to the vibrant life of the kingdom.

The climate of Zolirak is temperate-to-cold, with frigid winters that blanket the land in snow and breezy, pleasant summers that bring respite. The kingdom’s deep connection to the arcane is especially visible in its largest cities, like Aeloria, where entire districts float above the ground, enchanted by powerful magical forces.

Population

Zolirak’s population is predominantly elven, with most elves concentrated in the kingdom’s cities. These urban centers, such as Aeldoria, serve as thriving hubs of arcane study, where mages and scholars work tirelessly to expand their magical knowledge. As a magocracy, Zolirak invests heavily in its arcane infrastructure, ensuring that its cities are not only centers of learning but also bastions of magical innovation.

In the rural areas, smaller hamlets and agricultural communities host a more diverse population. While elves still reside here, they share the land with half-elves, halflings, and gnomes. Humans are a minor presence, mostly living in these outlying areas, while dwarves are a rare sight in Zolirak.

Among the elven population, distinct sub-groups add to the kingdom’s cultural fabric. The Terran-Elves, deeply connected to the forests, lead a life intertwined with nature, often accompanied by centaurs, and the fae. Their unique customs and lifestyle set them apart from the urban-dwelling elves. The Shadow elves Elves, by contrast, form a small but influential group residing in the cities. Considered guests of the kingdom, many Shadow Elves hold high-ranking positions within Zolirak’s magocratic hierarchy.

Except for the arcane, elven culture also places immense value on the development of arts, reflecting their devotion to Ephelion, their creator and god of love and art. This dual reverence for magic and beauty pervades every aspect of their society, from the towering spires of Aeloria to the intricate tapestries and sculptures that adorn even the humblest village.
