Khilri

An amphibious species of aquatic humanoid, khilris are easily recognizable by their mixture of smooth skin and chitin armor, and overall characteristic appearance.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Khilris are amphibian humanoids who, like many humanoids, still share many anatomical similarities with the humans from which they evolved. While at first glance they may look distinctly non-human, the relationship is obvious in the overall shape of the body and fairly human-like proportions of the torso and limbs.   Their skin is very smooth, more like the slippery skin of a frog or a catfish than that of a human. In addition, khilris also have substantional chitin armor, which resembles an exoskeleton (except that khilris have an internal skeleton like their human ancestors). Their chitin armor and backside tends to be fairly dull in color, but the underside/front of the body is often brightly colored.   Khilris have broad, fairly flat heads, with wide mouths. They have several barbels on the face and head, with exact placement, number, and length varying among individuals. They have chitin armor on the back and top of their heads, with the edges sticking out and forming an uneven fringe of sorts.   Chitin armor is also present on both arms and legs, where it forms more distinct, almost leaf-like fringes. Part of this armor expresses as a dagger-like claw on the hands, resembling half a pincer. It attaches in the middle of the hand, with one finger on either side, and a thumb further in. Aside from the pincer-claw, none of the fingers have claws or even noticeably pointy nails (though individual khilris can modify them that way, just like a human could).   Both fingers and toes are webbed. The toes are also elongated. Both sexes have a frog-like vocal sac on their throat, allowing them to greatly amplify their calls.
