D'Varda
A species of aquatic humanoid often confused for the Near-Human fasahis, d'vardas are also humanoids altered with cephalopod traits. Like the fasahis, they come in many colors and patterns, thus enhancing the confusion. However, despite their similarities, the species aren't particularly closely related, with fasahis being mostly squid-based and d'vardas being more octopus-based.
Basic Information
Anatomy
D'vardas are a surprisingly human-like species within the aquatic humanoid group. This is likely in part because they aren't actually very aquatic, with a more amphibian lifestyle. They have no adaptations to breathe underwater, although they can hold their breath for a long time.
The easiest way to tell d'vardas apart from fasahis is by taking a closer look at the head. D'vardas lack hair entirely, including the head hair fasahis have, and instead of tendrils, they have cephalopod-style arms, with suckers down their entire length. While fasahis only have 2 or 4 tendrils, d'vardas typically have 8 (although d'vardas with 6 or 10 arms are not uncommon), attaching around the crown and temples, with the suckers oriented towards the base of the skull/nape of the neck. The head-arms (often referred to as tentacles, which while incorrect, is less confusing) are fully mobile and prehensile, and d'vardas have complete control over them.
Like fasahis, d'vardas also come in a great variety of colors and patterns. Greens, blues, and teals are very common, but sandy yellow, black, and red are not all that uncommon.
