Sources of Arcane Powers

The ability to cast spells and know of the arcane must come from a source. However precisely what this source is is something of a contentious issue, ingrained into society and politics.     Study of the Arcane While this is generally an agreed source of arcane abilities, this remains a contentious area. In Kaun  in particular, there are heavy restrictions on the study of the arcane. Wizards have a history, a dark history that casts a shadow over arcane studies in Kaun. Many argue that arcane knowledge is power, a power that ultimately corrupts not only the wizard's purpose but their body, mind and morality. A hunger for knowledge is dangerous, and can easily become a greed for power, hierarchical or otherwise. Innate Arcane Abilities The genetic diversity in the populations of this area of the multispheres is visibly apparent in both Kaun  and Tyro's populations. Some argue that arcane abilities are another manifestation of this, quoting examples of arcane lineage. Others, including the conspiracy theorist types, state this is wizard propaganda, attempting to normalise unregulated powers and undermining magic laws. This is debated playfully among Tyro scholars over cocktails and viciously to the point of blows in Kaun pubs.  Arcane Items The antics of wizards has meant that items that are able to cast spells are spread far and wide. Much to the annoyance of the Kaun Metropolitan Police Head Office, they are known to pop up and inevitably end up in the wrong hands at the worst time. Kaun has met difficulties in separating itself and its daily life from the arcane after the Law of the City-Sphere Kaun introduced great restrictions onto arcane objects. It is hard to hunt down objects that are integrated into the everyday, even when the general public have thrown them out over the fear of wizards and retribution from the Magical Police Enforcement.     Deity Blessings To say that faith-related abilities are akin to the abilities of wizards would be blasphemy in many circles, and would be a large diplomatic blunder at best. Faith abilities do show parallels to some arcane abilities but this is a delicate subject to say the least.
