Gnome Species in Kaos Rhythm | World Anvil

Gnome

Gnomes trace their lineage back to the mysterious origins of the fae, a history with bright colors, wilder wildlands, and primal emotions. Gnomes are widely regarded by the other species as strange, often for their odd physical ticks and quick, clipped way of speaking.

Physical Appearance

Gnomes are a small species, generally standing just over 3 feet in height. Their hair tends toward vibrant colors such as the fiery orange of autumn leaves, the verdant green of forests at springtime, or the deep reds and purples of wildflowers in bloom. Similarly, their flesh tones range from earthy browns to floral pinks, frequently with little regard for heredity. Gnomes possess highly mutable facial characteristics and often have proportionally large mouths and eyes, an effect which can be both disturbing or beautiful, depending on the individuals expression.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The vast majority of gnomes live in Kriio and are a common sight in the fey cities. Over the millennia, gnomes have evolved into a primarily urban species who thrive in close-knit communities. Gnomes are almost never found traveling alone by choice but many experience a deep-seated wanderlust throughout their lives but unlike heblin, they generally prefer to stay close to their homes and return to their communities often to share what they've learned.

Average Intelligence

Gnomes are highly intellectual by nature and have an innate curiosity comparable to heblin. Many gnomes are 'jacks-of-all-trades' due to their long lives and frequent desire to change, move, and experience new things. As a broad generalization there are two major mentalities among gnomes when it comes to learning; either they jump from one hobby to another every few years, developing a skill or knowledge to the limit of their access and then moving on to something new. Less commonly, a gnome will 'get hooked' so-to-speak and dedicate their lives trying to master their particular focus.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Gnomes have difficulty interacting with the other races on both social and physical levels. Gnome humor is hard to translate and often comes across as malicious or senseless to other species, whereas gnomes in turn tend to think of larger humanoid species as dull and lumbering giants. They most often get along well with heblin and humans but are overly fond of playing jokes on dwanar and half-orcs, whom most gnomes feel need to lighten up. They respect elves deeply as a culture but grow frustrated with the comparatively slow pace at which members of the long-lived species make decisions. To gnomes, action is always better than inaction and many gnomes carry several highly involved projects with them at all times to keep themselves entertained during rest periods.
