Tree Guardians
Dryads are friendly fey who act as the protectors of sacred forests groves and ancient trees. They are favored representatives of Rinen, a deity of vegetation and wild natural places.
Sturdy, humanoid fey with delicate features, every dryad has a bonded type of vegetation. Their hair is made of thin, flexible branches with leaves and foliage that change color with the seasons. During the spring and summer months, the leaves are lush and green, while during autumn they respond the same as any natural leaves of the same plant-bond, changing to yellow, orange, or red until
Dryads prefer to live away from civilization, delighting in the wilderness away from those that seek to impose limitations on nature itself. They live with respect to nature and accept the company of those that do so as well. Attractive and kind humanoids who were fond of nature were often be taken in by a dryad as both their mate and guardian.
Dryads are generally benign, and will attempt to warn off intruders before resorting to combat. Only those who were particularly cruel and determined to destroy a dryad's forest saw the full wrath of these fae.
Each dryad is magically bound to a single tree. This tree is the dryad's life force and home. They will fight to the death to protect their bonded tree, should the tree be killed or destroyed, the dryad will die soon afterward. Dryads cannot stray too far from their bonded tree without suffering the same fate. If a dryad leaves the vicinity of their tree for too long, they will eventually die.
