Epnari Language in Kaos Rhythm | World Anvil

Epnari

An ancient language spoken by a clan of nomadic isolationists, Epnari is now known among scholarly circles as a language ahead of its time. Used in scientific notations, naming conventions, and modern measurments, nobody knows much about the origins of the language but the death of the people who developed it has become a warning to humans everywhere.

History

Before the Allegran Accords and even before the founding of the famous capital cities, humans roamed the plains of their home continent living short, desperate lives. As the nomadic clans began to interact more peacefully they developed a shared language to help communicate and create community even among disparate groups of folk.

Prior to the comingling of language, the Epnari clan had a significantly more sophisticated manner of speech than the others and refused to change their traditions, fearing that much of the meaning and history of their spoken word would be lost. The Epnari isolated themselves from the other clans and refused all contact to anyone speaking the new hybrid language - only those who spoke Epnari or were willing to learn without teaching could trade or marry among them.

Unfortunately, according to popular legend the entire clan was lost when a band of orcs declared war on the Epnari and razed their entire settlment. After being isolated for decades with no allies nearby, they were at a major disadvantage and left vulnerable. Coincidentally enough, the Epnari language shared many charicteristics of the new language that was developed. If they had put forth their language as an example they could have avoided a great deal of hardship and maybe survived to more modern times.

Geographical Distribution

The language was confined to the isolated areas where the Epnari people lived. The north eastern coast of Allegri is where their ruins have been found and samples of their writing are scarce but most numerous there.
