Dentrittium Material in Kantostara | World Anvil

Dentrittium (Den-trit-tee-um)

To go through it required three steps. It sounded so simple but these things are never simple. Lu began with step #1 - activate the new crystalline matrix. They all watched, holding their breath, as her hands moved across the controls and the series of crystals lit up and hummed to life. Lu quipped, "So far so good. This crazy thing didn't blow my ship up." Ket shot her an angry look and Lu couldn't help smiling mischievously. Okay, on to step #2 - maneuver the ship into position and enter the portal. There was a loud bang and all the stars seemed to wink out leaving them surrounded in blackness. All the instruments winked out too leaving what looked like tiny rainbows dancing across the consoles. There was an eerie silence when all they could hear was the sound of their own breathing and the beating of their hearts. It was as though they were suspended in time and space for what seemed like an eternity but was actually only a moment, a moment when they crossed the threshold into another dimension completing step #3. Suddenly there was another loud bang and they were through. Everything popped back to normal. Everything, that is, except for the fact that the ship was now spinning out of control. Lu had both hands on the stick, struggling for control. She shouted, "Chrys! What's going on?!!" The disembodied voice of the ship calmly responded, "We seem to be caught in some kind of vortex."

Properties

Material Characteristics

Dentrittium looks like glittering multi-colored mineral dust.

Geology & Geography

It is found floating in and around most asteroid belts.

Origin & Source

I guess you could say that dentrittium is stardust, because it is actually the fine dust-like particles left over from the formation of star systems.

History & Usage

Discovery

The use of dentrittium to produce axionic energy was introduced to the worlds of Kantostara by the Singers of Songs.

Everyday use

Canisters of dentrittium are inserted into crystalline matrices that contain tone key crystals. The vibrations produced by the tone key crystals excite the particles of dentrittium creating the axionic energy that is commonly used to power most space ships.

Reusability & Recycling

After a certain amount of time, dentrittium will become inert and unable to continue producing axionic energy. Inert dentrittium is then used in the manufacture of other products.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Dentrittium is inexpensive and widely available throughout Kantostara.

Storage

It is stored in special canisters that come in various sizes to fit the many different crystalline matrices that the canisters are then inserted into similar to the way we use batteries.

The story fragment was interesting, but there was no connection to our prompt in it, and I wanted more - a predecessor or follow on!
