Trekijàrn, Tribe of Wood

The Trekijàrn is a tribe which name come from the only race that composed it for a long time. In the pursuit of beauty and eternity they are known for, they first wore complex masks and ample clothes. They also used to carved the parts of their body they disliked, however not much could be done to extend their lives. Nowadays they are using Drálm to create Nankaï powered augments they can implant in their body. Those augments give them power, beauty and an extended life making them one of the most powerful and feared tribe of Diespeíros but also contribute to their castes society, deepening the gap between each caste.

Castes

Eirstó : The Great Ones

The Eirstó is formed of nobles. It is the highest caste, governing the tribe from the center of its land, rarely leaving their precious district in Trekibæn. The nobles are divided in 6 Houses, great families which each have a particular role in the administration of the tribe. They do not believe in their gods.

Aefaun : The Ones Who Own

The Aefaun is formed of bourgeois. They are the middle caste, lightly influencing the political decisions but essential to the welfare of the “whole” society. They also are divided in Houses, although more numerous, wider and less united. Each are specialized in a particular activity subordinate to one of the Eirstó's Houses. They are mostly living around the Eirstó's district but some Houses founded their own districts further from the capital. Although most of them aren't true believers they form the majority of the clergy.

Ekkirta : Those Without Tree

The Ekkirta is made of the poorest people of the tribe. They are the lowest caste, having no power at all on the tribe. Most of them live and work for the higher castes all their life, depending entirely on them. Some try to build their own business but are often brought up short by the henchmen of some bourgeois who don't like competition. They mostly live around the Aefaun's districts but those looking for freedom and peace live in tiny hamlets far from any district. They are those who believe the most in the gods of the depths.

Relations Between Castes

Eirstó - Aefaun

The relation between Eirstós and Aefauns is one of mutual profits. The Aefauns are the industrial and economical force of the tribe as such they are essential to the Eirstós for the upkeep of their political power. The Eirstós are, among others, the legislators and the judges of the tribe as such they can enact laws and make judgements that benefit or handicap the Aefauns. The Aefauns know their leaders are no superior beings but only the oldest families of the tribes who were the most knowledgeable and rich.

Eirstó - Ekkirta

The relation between the Eirstós and the Ekkirtas is one of submission. The Eirstós coldly punish those who disobey but also graciously reward those who efficiently involve themselves in the society. They are seen by most Ekkirtas as superior beings chosen by the gods of the depths who know what has to be done and what has to be avoided. Thus their loyalty and submission is entirely voluntary even though they rarely see their leaders.

Aefaun - Ekkirta

The relation between the Aefauns and the Ekkirtas is one of strong interdependence. The Aefauns need the Ekkirtas to extract raw materials and work in their industries and the Ekkirtas need the Aefauns to gain money, lodging, benefit from technologies and above all : get the protection of the militia. This mutual need is at the origin of their harmony, they both know the importance of their role in the society. Weddings between them aren't usual but are generally not a problem if there are profits for the Aefaun family.

Houses

Eirstós

They are divided among six Houses :
    • The Brenhyld, are “The House of Communications”.
    • The Kaalvgd, are “The House of Sciences”.
    • The Nefijóhs, are “The House of Militias”.
    • The Rähdgans, are “The House of Commerce”.
    • The Thárjunn, are “The House of Drálms”.
    • The Urdän, are “The House of Cults”.
At the beginning they were only five families but the Kaalvgd were offered the extraordinary chance to join and become the sixth family.

Relation to Death

Necropolis

The Trekijàrn have cemeteries they call Trekithur. These places are woods where each tree becomes a vault for their bodies. Soon before their death or after they died, they are placed against a tree with which they will merge. With time, only their faces will remain on the surface of the trunk, hence their nickname “Face Of The Lost”. The first and only cemetery of this kind is Vidhátna, affectionately called “The Wood Of The Deceased”.

Interpretation

Their god of death, kind of, is Hrálífd, their main deity, also goddess of life. As such they believe death to be the apogee of their life, the necessary and unavoidable condition to be like their creator : complete. However, it doesn't make death a goal, a point to reach as soon as possible, death is an end, a conclusion they need to be worthy of by living their life to the fullest.

Avoidance

The Eirstós not believing in their gods means that they do not share their point of view on death with the other castes. For most of them death is a weakness of nature that should be eradicated and a brake on their power. As such they redouble ingenuity to develop new ways to extend their life.
