The Calm Clam
The Calm Clam is Summersets most famous seafood restaurant. It might even be the most famous one in all of Kallevaar.
The reason for this are multiple things.
The reason for this are multiple things.
- It has an incredibly favourable location in the City of Seafarers and Merchants.
- The founder, Chef Duvar, was an incredibly innovative chef who took pride in finding ways to eat anything alive in the world.
- The family has handed down all the wild and wonderous recipes.
- They hold the annual tradition of the Calm Clam Calamity Dinner very high and the people love it.
Alterations
Originally the building only had a very small Kitchen, a large open floor and the living quaters of the family on the other side of the kitchen. It was mostly practical, because the Duval family wasn't very wealthy and they mostly kept themselves afloat by cooking for anyone who contributed ingredients.
Later when a small accident destroyed the kitchen it was rebuilt much nicer than originally. This made it much more efficient and a lot more practical to cook for many people.
A few years later, the second floor was added to add some extra rooms to the house so people could stay overnight.

History
Now you may be wondering who is visiting such a wildly famous restaurant? It is surely only affordable for the very rich and powerful.
WRONG.
That's what maks it such a special place for many. While the rich and powerful like to pride themselves with being able to get anything they feel like, the Calm Clam rose to greatness by being a nice and affordable restaurant for anyone in the city.
At first it was mostly frequented by fisher families who brought their own fish for Duvar to prepare and a few spare fish as payment for his efforts. Those extra fish, Duvar would use for his own family or turn into dishes and sell to dockworkers or misfortuned adventurers for a small profit.
To Duvars luck, some of the adventurers who he fed and gave a little hope to when they were down turned around their fortunes and returned to get a good meal when they came back to Summerset, since they remembered the delicious fish they had. Not only that, but they brought the news of the little restaurant that will give you a bit of warmth and comfort even if you have only 1 last copper to spare to the world.
It quickly turned into a must see for any adventurer worth their title and those more fortunate started a system of overpaying their meal if they could, so the less fortunate of their kind could get a free meal when they had to. One never knew when oneself would rely on it ...
Duvar picked up on this and officially implemented this system not just for the adventurers but for all his guests visiting and somehow it worked. He did take to the "overpayed" fund twice to renovate the restaurant. Once when it's kitchen burned down because the ancient oven he had almost exploded and he was thankfully just outside to deliver food to a table.
The second time it was to add a second floor with rooms so some of the various travelers coming by could stay there for a night when they couldn't find anwhere else. Those who had started and given many contributions to the fund were actually quite excited to see even the excess of their giving not lining the pockets of the family but used to give back to the people who originally came to make this restaurant big.
Once Chef Duvar reached the age where his body wasn't very fond of working in the kitchen all day anymore he started to write down all his recipes for future use and taught his son Duvar II the finer details of his work that he had not let him know about before.
Duvar II, continued on as his father had before, building a fantastic buisness, but never straying from the generosity it had originated from. He was less experimental than his father, who had made food out of any fish given to him, but he still perfected a few of his fathers recipe. The one he didn't touch was the Calamity Fish, which was already intricate enough. It had become a tradition to cook it one night every year, ever since Duvar figured out how to and he wouldn't touch that.
Duvar III is Duvar IIs second son who took over the retaurant because his older brother Nedron preferred to join the Adventurers Guild and he is still running it by the same principles that started it all.
WRONG.

Tourism
Now with that history established, you can probably guess how many different people show up to eat there and some even to stay a night all year round. But for the sake of convenience here's a list:
- The local Fishermen and their Families, many of which still had the old trade of bringing part of their catch to the restaurant in return for a freshly cooked meal.
- Plenty of Adventueres, who made the restaurant famous in the first place and still frequent it. This is helped by the fact that the headquater of the Adventuers Guild is in Summerset as well.
- Most people living in Summerset. From the dockworkers to the governor almost anyone graces the restaurant more or less frequently, since they have the very best fish in the entire city.
- Many of the merchants that come to sell their wares in the city als come to eat there before going to the various bars and taverns to get drunk.

I am reminded of The Erskine Arms in Conwy Wales.
