A Codex of Kalin and the Fallen Cities
A seminal work by Alain Thoran, A Codex of Kalin and the Fallen Cities (Or as it is sometimes called, "the Codex") is one of the most comprehensive and easy to read works of historical documentation in Kalin's history.
While other books before it have gone into greater detail and depth, The Codex is well known for its readability and brevity. Instead of getting caught in the minutia of every event and happening, Alain wrote in broad strokes about history, religion, various nations, and more. It makes it a great starting point for younger or less well-read students to get started learning history.
The book was first published in 722, where it gained immediate acclaim. It was republished several times since then, with the latest (and last, following the death of Alain in 755 2A), being published in 751.
Purpose
Alain has stated, in the beginning of the book no less: "But for the purposes of my order and the preservation of history I write this volume both to enlighten those who live today and educate those who will come. Many volumes could be written about every topic in these pages, but my hope is not to fully categorize; nay it is merely to offer a summary of the events and places with which I have traveled and experienced."
