Alpen
The continent of Alpen (Known as A-qin to those of the East) is a northern land that is home to many things which are the stuff of legend. While admittedly small compared to most continents, Alpen is one of the epicenters of the world’s greatest achievements and sees millions of merchants and explorers out every year. The northern half of the continent is ruled by the Qou-Yaan Confederacy, who mostly largely rely on trade for their economy. The southern half of the continent is all-but dominated by the Cathcou Empire, who watch the region acutely, but take great lengths to make their largely isolated from the machinations of the world at large, so as to focus on their studies to increase their understanding of the world.
Geography
The continent is split in half by the Gods’ Bore, a massive canyon that holds the waters of the Great Stream, which runs from the ice-riddled northern waters to the warm waters of the southern bay. The southern half of the continent is part rolling hills of cool steppes, part rocky high rises, in the form of the Aakaveidal Mountains, in which many major settlements, including the capital city of the Cathou Empire, sit largely undisturbed from the rest of the world.
Natural Resources
Alpen is by all accounts a land of plenty. The resources of the continent are different based on the separate regions:
The North
The north of the continent is chilly and covered partially by cloud forests, filled with bamboo and many fruit trees. The South
The southern steppes feed a menagerie of animals, enough to keep several different groups of people well fed.The Bore
The river that weaves through the Gods’ Bore gives it enough water to feed the people who live there. The soil is rich and lively, supporting a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, enough to provide an entire feast all themselves. Few other resources exist within the canyon.
