Castilion Castle

Castilion Castle is the home of the Fox Leader at the heart of Castilion Town. It rises above the town, looking down over it.

Appearance

The wall round the castle towers over the closest town buildings, set in the rock above them. Only arrow slits break the solid stone of the curtain wall. Small towers break up the expanse of stone every so often on the way around.   The main gate to the castle is accessed by steps up from the town's main square. There is also a side gate with easier access to the kitchens and servant areas of the castle. They allow you entry into the courtyard surrounding the castle itself.   The keep inside is set to the back of the compound. Built out of the same black rock as the mountains it abutted, it has a foreboding look. The main section of the keep has five floors, and the towers at each corner are one floors higher and have roof access. The courtyard round the castle is paved with the same rock.

Inside the castle

The bottom floor is the servant's quarters, this is where the kitchen is and guard quarters. The next two floors are the more public rooms, with the main hall, guest quarters and meeting rooms. The top two are more private, with the private living areas of the Fox Leader and those of the Fox clan advisors who reside in the Castilion. The guards have their own staircases to access all floors and the top of all the towers.

Kitchens

The main door to the kitchens faces across the courtyard to the side entrance of the castle complex. Inside it is a large room filled with long tables where the cooks prepare the food. At the back of the room is a large fire with a hot plate for multiple pans and a spit mechanism in front.

The main hall

The main hall, or receiving room, takes up nearly all of the second floor of the keep. It is where the big events of the Fox clan take place and where the Fox Leader holds court. The roof is ribbed, each one curving to spans above the people inside. In between each rib the wooden roof panels are painted with scenes of previous Fox Leaders and their daring exploits. At one side was a sophisticated Water clocks with a stepped series of large ornate vases with water dripping from one into the next.

Meeting Rooms

There is a variety of meeting rooms and office space for different sizes of groups on the second and third floors. This is the administrative heart of the Fox Clan.   The Main Chambers are the ones most frequently used by the Fox Leader and her advisors. It is set back off the main corridor with large wooden doors. The recess gives space for guards to stand outside and for attendees to wait to be admitted.

Guest areas

A series of bedroom suites take up much of the third floor. There is a large, sweeping staircase to access them. corridor has a rich red carpet running down the centre, and niches every so often with suits of armour. Swords and pikes hung on the walls.

Living areas

The more day to day areas of the Castilion are where the Fox Leader lives and they aren't accessible to the general public. You need to know which stairs to use and be authorised to go up there. It is an area where comfort is prioritised over the more ostentatious fittings of the lower floors. The wall hangings are more comfortable, and the furniture well used.

Guard areas

The guards are quartered on the ground floor, but they have their own stairs from there to access all the floors for their duties. Then the towers are the main other place they use. These are training and look out places.   Each tower has two rooms at the top - one an antechamber with a fireplace and the other a larger open area. Both have multiple arrow slits in the walls, so can be used for defense when needed. Though in the ante chambers these have been covered with tapestries to make the room less chill. The celings are wooden and there is a metal ladder on the side of the wall to allow access to the tower roof.
