The Prohpecy of Abel

Vasily Vasilyev lived in the late 18th, early 19th Century Russia. As the monk known as Abel he made many predictions concerning the Imperial Family of Russia, the Romanovs. According to existing archives and documents many of Abels prophecies' have come true with remarkable accuracy, even those which happened after his death. Most famous are those concerning the demise of various Emperors (and Empress Catharine the Great). However there are other prophecies he made, some simply less famous, for what is more dramatic in an autocracy than the death of the autocrat. Such prophecies reportedly included Napoleon's invasion of Russia; the Decembrist revolt; the first world war; and the murder of Nicholas II. Yet there are also some that are almost entirely forgotten, or even lost to history.   Of these lost prophecies was a letter written by Emperor Paul I in 1801, shortly before his murder. Supposedly containing a number of prophecies related to him by the monk Abel. while he was a prisoner in Peter and Paul fortress. Sealed and locked in a chest, with a note saying "To be opened by my descendant 100 years after my death." It was known to concern the fate of the Romanov dynasty. However what it said no one knew. The letter's very existence was kept a closely guarded secret. Only the imperial family and select trusted servants knew of its existence.   In 1901 Tsar Nicholas and his Wife Tsarina Alexander went to Gatchina Palace to open the letter. What it contained they never told anyone but it clearly troubled them. They had started the day in high spirits, and ended it thoughtful and troubled. Speculation has been wild about the contents of the letter. Everything from the chaos of the Decembrist revolt to the peace of Alexander II's reign. Some speculate that it referred to Nicholas II as Job the long-suffering. Nicholas had been born on 6th May. Job's feast day, and Nicholas undoubtedly endured many trials during his reign and imprisonment. But did it say anything further? Though some claim it fortells a terrible war in the near future, or the restoration of the Romanovs. Many speculate, but none know.
