Ulysse, Revelry (YU-lih-ssee)

Ulysse is revelry incarnate—a carefree spirit who attained godhood in a strange cosmic gamble.

Ulysse's Doctrine

In Ulysse's ascension, he became a god of revelry in his own right, but he also took on the lost domain of greed. It's shifted to fit him, but he is still the patron deity of wealth. He is called Revelry because he embodies the spirit of joy and merriment, but his portfolio includes everything from festivals for peace to selfish overindulgence. His clerics have a wide range of morals and beliefs. Some are mischievous and looking to cause anarchy, others are from war-torn lands seeking to bring joy to disparaged people, and still others are casino barons looking to exploit the mortal need for entertainment for their own gain. However, it takes a lot of work to get Ulysse's favour. It takes far less work to get his attention to make a deal, and most of the people with his magic are warlocks whose relationship with him is more that of people who trade with each other than deity and worshipper.

Counterfeit Divinity

Ulysse did not exist before The Exodus. He was a member of a long gone race of celestials that didn't ascend to the Pillars. He traveled frequently through The Middle Path, making trades with the gods who were willing. He made allies and enemies in turn, one of whom was the god Anuthar, a dominion over wealth and greed. Animosity built up between them as Ulysse upset Anuthar's carefully hoarded power in the Pillars until Anuthar snapped and attacked. The story goes that in descalating, Ulysse proposed a trade: he promised to bring Anuthar a star from Caelia's realm to make up for any transgressions he'd made against Anuthar. He managed it, but Caelia was furious. When she discovered the god of greed had stolen from her, she sent Dahiné to retrieve it, and the altercation that followed ended in Anuthar's death, then Ulysse's ascension to fill the empty spot.   Ulysse has altered and shifted over the millenia to fit mortal attitude. He's one of the more humanoid-looking gods, but unlike most of them, his form itself changes, not just the way he presents it. As such, the depiction of him at any given time is universally accepted because he appears the same for everyone.
