Wyldlands

The Wyldlands consist of all the parts of Jordnyr not settled by humanity. These areas are filled with strange, weird, and deadly flora and fauna. Those of the Lore Caste have calculated that one can find a previously undiscovered species approximately every thirty meters. The Wylder Scouts will caution you that wandering thirty meters into untamed Wyldlands is a sure way to find yourself dead several times over. There are four zones of Wyldlands; to the north are the Frigid Wyldlands, to the south are the Wet Wyldlands, to the east are the Searing Wyldlands, and to the west, beyond the Westwall, are the Dark Wyldlands.

The Frigid Wyldlands

To the north a traveler would first come across the Bloodwoods, an immense forest filled with sundry sorts of preternatural predators. Some of its denizens include Fellcats, Blind Bears, and Venom Darts.   The Bloodwoods begins to thin as one travels northward and the temperatures begin to drop. Puppet trees become more common here, as do larger predators like the Tusker.   Eventually the trees give way to snow swept tundra. Enormous Snow Wyrms prowl throughout this region. The Hearbreak Flower also grows here, this plant is greatly coveted by Alchemists for its many uses in their mystical compounds.   Beyond the tundra sits the Glacier Wall. What unknown dangers lay beyond that are as yet unknown to humanity.

The Wet Wyldlands

To the south one finds that the Wyldlands slowly transform the farther south one goes. Nearer to humanity there are rain forests filled with brightly patterned monstrosities, and the carnivorous plants that feed upon them. One such plant is the Vine-Pit, which loves to feast on Goblings. While Goblings are found throughout Jordnyr, they are more prevalent in the rain forest.   As one proceeds south, the rain forests give way to wet marsh lands. Here the flora is slightly less deadly, changing from mostly carnivorous to mostly poisonous. The fauna in this area prefers ambush hunting, and are well developed for that pursuit. The Crogitor being the most fearsome of those yet discovered.   Beyond the marshes is the Diamond Sea. Among the myriad of unimaginable lifeforms in the Diamond Sea, are the colossal Sea Wyrms.   There have been some adventurous souls over the centuries who have built large boats according to directions found in the Founders Archives. They then set off across the Diamond Sea in these boats the Founders once called ships. None have ever returned.

The Searing Wyldlands

To the east, as the air begins to dry the moisture from ones lungs, lies the Searing Wyldlands. The forests at the edge of humanities control quickly grow sparse as one travels east. All too soon turning into an unforgiving and nearly endless desert. Many of the flora and fauna of the Searing Wyldlands have incorporated fire into their genetic profiles. No member of the Lore Caste has yet determined why this is.   Some of the many dangerous creatures here are the Ember Sprites, Silent Serpents, Death Shimmers, and the pack hunting Hop-Hound.   There are low mountains further east. Only the nearest parts of this range have ever been reached by a scarce few daring Wylder Scouts. The Fire Wyrms that live there can sometimes be found prowling the vast desert.

The Dark Wyldlands

To the west of humanity's settlements on Jordnyr is the Westwall. Built by the Founders over a thousand years ago, it was designed to keep the horrors of the western Wyldlands at bay, or at least at arms length. Only the most trained and prepared Wylder Scouts are sent beyond the Westwall into the Dark Wyldlands. Regretfully only about half of those who venture into the Dark Wyldlands return. Those that do return always have horrific tales of some new terrifying creature or vicious plant, and often bearing the scars to prove the point.   Many of the fauna of the Dark Wyldlands are known to be tremendously poisonous. Some of the flora here have developed active hunting methods, such as the Spearfisher plant, which actively targets its prey and then harpoons them with a spear-like branch of itself.    Legends of Venom Wyrms existing to the west have never been confirmed, but it would not be surprising if there were none who survived such an encounter.
