Gerreggian Battlefield Duels

The early history of the Gerreggian peoples is largely shrouded in mystery. As they stepped into the scene of history via Leomite records, they gained a reputation as great and brave warriors. Following the fall of the Leomite empire the tribes began to settle. As trade between the north and south of Eastern Kolaskyva opened up, towns grew within the lands that would become known as Gerreggy. The rise of the towns and their growth into small cities would create different power centers within the landmass. This Era of internecine feuding would be dealt with with an extension of a previous cultural practice: that is, battlefield duels.   While Leomite records do make mention of the Gerreggians' propensity for dueling during battle, a challenge that the more disciplined Leomites had less interest in accepting, it isn't until later on that this practice becomes as integral to Gerreggian political life. Owing in part to the riverine geography of the region, many of the tribes' leadership centered in important urban towns, from which the tribes at large would be led. Thus began the era of the Principalities, during which the battlefield duels of champions would be at their most frequent occurrences.
