Chikrin

“Oh, yea. I’ve seen some that allow whoever holds the ‘key’ to do some really horrible things. The worst ones … it turns the user into a mindless slave. Trapped in their own mind while their body does whatever the holder wants them too.” - Kren Enchanter
The chikrin is a service accessory used to keep magic wielders from using their magic, this also includes ludá. It can only be undone by a 'key' though this key takes on different meanings depending on the chikrin. It is most commonly used for slaves who can perform magic, regardless if they can control said magic or not.   The chikrin was once used sparingly, only for those who were unable to control their magic and therefore was a risk to those around them. Many, in the beginning, asked for the chikrin to be attached, and the holder of their key was someone trusted. When the slave trade was introduced, the chikrin began to be used to collar those who would attempt to defend themselves. Now, any slave who shows the ability to perform magic is collared. But the chikrin purpose doesn't just stop at slaves, wielders who let their guard down around unknowing enemies have also been collared.   The chikrin come in different types. The basic ones are used on slaves and simply need to be unlocked by an actual key to undo it. It keeps said slaves from using their magic or ludá. A step up is a normal chikrin, which still needs a key but also prevents species from using their innate abilities. If it requires magical energy, the chikrin disallows it. Any chikrin above this are rarer and much more dangerous. These chikrin are created with their own personal keys and rules set up within them. For example, one such chikrin disallowed a magical user from using their magic but also from controlling their own body. The keyholder had complete control over them.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The chikrin is made possible by magic, first and foremost. Those who create it imbue the chikrin following the laws of magic. The chikrin is enchanted with a spell that can only be activated by a key. Depending on the chikrin and its purpose, depends on the spell and the level of magic poured into it.   When the chikrin is attached and activated, it can only be removed by those who hold the key. Lesser chikrin, ones that are most commonly seen among slaves, are easier to remove as anyone who knows their way around the contraption can free it. Master magic wielders also have ways to unlock it, alongside spirits and demons.
