Underground Night Market of Grand Haven
One of Grand Havens greater secrets is the Underground Night Market.
Taking place deep underneath the upper east side, there are several ways to get into the Night Market but just finding it isn’t enough to gain yourself entry. Admittance to the night market requires either recognition or invitation and a fee. The night market operates only a few days a month although year-round the location is inhabited by its highly secretive residents. The fee ranges depending on events, special vendors, and sometimes the whim of the guards on duty. The base fee to enter the night market is two gold pieces although there are times where it can cost as high as a hundred during the Night of Magic, which takes place only once a year and is a highly exclusive invite only event.
The most common entrances for the night market involve either going through certain guilds, secured offices in the Bath House or with much determination and a lot of risk they can be accessed through the sewers. The easiest way to gain yourself an invitation is through membership to a guild. Inherently more than a basic/novice membership in any guild requires you to have some level of discretion, so often any senior guildmember is given an invitation to the Night Market. Certain levels of notoriety in Grand Haven will also automatically either grant you entrance, or bar you from it entirely but having said notoriety doesn’t mean you’ll be told it exists. The Night Market council meets quarterly to discuss the approval or disapproval of those whose entrance is based on recognition alone. Its in the best interest of the Market to have a wide variety of customers, so while exclusive it is not impossible by any means to gain entrance. Any approved attendee is allowed to bring guests several times a year to the market with the understanding that they are responsible for their guests and their actions. Sometimes executing proper behavior with a fair amount of spending while attending as a guest will get you permanent approval.
Once entrance is granted attendees will be witness to the most diverse market in western Jirathas. The market collectively makes up nearly a mile of interconnected tunnels with areas of the market having different wares. Some areas are lesser trafficked and even heavily avoided except by the most unsavory of guests, however many areas of the market could easily make this one of the greatest wonders in Jirathas, each stall is built and customized by its owner so there is a beautiful level of eclecticism throughout.
It is said almost anything of value can be found in the night market at some point or another, however, there are a few exceptions to that rule, even in the less savory parts, one of which is slavery and even asking for such a thing will get you blacklisted immediately and some seeking such a thing have been known to go missing afterwards. On the other hand, some of the most efficient assassins, vendors of cursed objects, and spell casters of ill repute operate in the darker corners of the market.
