Echo Character in Jewels of Lockhinge | World Anvil

Echo

At some point during a trip to the Temple to the Unknown, the party realized that a solitary crow had started following them. After some back and forth with offering food, the crow quickly made itself at home with the group, often using Garrus as a resting perch or pestering Remmy for snacks. The party was delighted (and later annoyed) to learn that the bird was capable of copying phrases and other sounds that it's heard, albeit in a deep, creepy voice. Eventually the team started calling it "Echo", as it was the only suggested name that the crow would repeat back to them.   Echo is unusually bold for a common crow. It's been quick to root through people's belongings and almost seems to enjoy taunting Treasure by perching on her head. Echo is also very intelligent, able to comprehend simple commands in Common even if it doesn't feel like following them. Remmy had been teaching it how to answer yes-or-no questions with a series of clicking sounds, with mixed success. Tek has also played a couple of games with it in exchange for shiny copper pieces, with greater success.   One night, after waking from a nightmare, Tek was deeply unsettled to find Echo sitting on his chest and staring down at him. It immediately began asking for snacks, diffusing the situation - but the feeling of unease lingered for many days. Echo also seemed to be the only creature that could clearly perceive the Invisible Creature as it menaced the party, though it seemed intent on protecting them from the creature insofar as it was able to. It remains unclear whether Echo has any sort of supernatural or magical ability, or if the crow simply has a knack for being in the right (or most upsetting) place at the right time.
