Mildor
Mildor is among one of the older towns still in operation on the Continent. Starting off as a humble fishing village, it eventually grew into one of the central trade hubs on the east side of the continent due to its location at the fork of the eastern riverway. Through these natural water ways Mildor has direct connection to several other major settlements including Steelmont, the Chu Kingdom and, of course, Jaytown proper. It is these connections that continue to bolster Mildor's economy.
Due to its success Mildor is one of few settlements on the continent to boast a truly developed infrastructure with paved roads and a sprawling market center. The accommodation of Riverboat travel and trade is essential for Mildor's markets, and as such there are multiple river ports and warehouses to store boats and their cargo. The town itself has a small shipyard dedicated to the construction and upkeep of river vessels. The town's local economy, while small, is fairly strong, with roughly a dozen artisans of various trades able to make a living selling to their neighbors and to visitors. As Mildor is not part of any larger kingdom or territory, the government structure is entirely local. A mayor is elected among the populace and is in charge of appointing other for the positions of various other government offices such as the Treasurer and Sheriff. It is quite common for incumbent mayors to be frequently reelected, even in situations with nepotism and corruption, simply due to the town rarely facing many issues in terms of safety or prosperity. It was only recently that the town was faced with a big enough scandal to cause a political upset, thus resulting in Wermar Ontag ousting former Mayor Halben Swellspeak and becoming the first non-Swellspeak mayor in almost a century.
