Kai Highwater Character in Jay's Pangaea | World Anvil

Kai Highwater

Appearance:

Kai is tall human looking women with oddly long arms and legs and their skin has a very slight blue tint to it. She are roughly 6ft tall. She is recovering from her time as a slave but the amulet of health masks the long-term health effects of that time. As time passes she is regaining an air of authority and open disdain for fools and those she considers harmful to her people.

Backstory:

As the second daughter to the royal family of the Ever Isle, Kai was destinied to serve as Master of Trade for the Ever Isle while her sister, Gwene, ruled as Queen. As Master of Trade she was responible for overseeing the naval fleet that ensured merchants could travel without fear of piracy. She underwent extensive training as a naval officer despite the largely ceremonial nature of the position. However on her first, and only voyage, as captain the weather started getting rough and the ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew the Minnow would have been lost.   Despite saving the ship they were blown of course and into seas where pirates were common. The damaged ship tried to return home but was easily caught by pirates. Kai's crew was largely killed or sold into slavery. However one of the pirates recognized Gwene as the heir to the Ever Isle and quickly deduced that they had captured an entire generation of the Highwater family, as all her brothers and sisters had joined Kai to celebrate her graduation. The pirate leader, Gargamel's Employment Shop took the captive royals to a safe haven however a teleportation accident brought him to Jaytown. Knowing the ransom was pointless Gargamel used the family as slave for Jaytown's booming arena industry. The combination of poor treatment from Gargamel and the dangers of the missions enriched Gargamel but led to Gwene's death.   After slavery was outlawed in Jaytown and the Highwaters freed, as the eldest of the remaining siblings Kai has taken it upon herself to see that they are safely returned home. Due to the teleportation error she doesn't know where in the world exactly they are but based on her readings of the stars the Ever Isle is far, far west of Jaytown as the stars that were in the eastern sky back home are in the western sky now. She is also facinated by the magic of the wellspring and wonders if the magic could be reshaped and brought back to the Ever Isle in such as way as to be a force for good without providing safe harbor for villians.

After rescuing a ship from pirates, Kai was reunited with Jabbering Jacob an exile of the Ever Isles and she has offered him a full pardon in return for helping getting her family back home. They recently started the quest west by establishing a port in the abanadoned town of Theryn from which future expeditions can be launched until they make it far enough west to actually reach the Ever Isle.
