The Derrian Empire
The Derrian Empire is an expansive empire that occupies the western coast of the continent of Brenaurus. The empire is renowned for its extremely disciplined military and its beautiful masonry in its architecture. The empire arose when the residents of the western empire were unable to reach the sanctuary that was created for them by the gods. No longer safe from the fiends, they fled as far from the fighting as they could. This brought them to the west coast where they hid in the cities here that had not sustained too much damage. While they hid here they used a rigid disciplinary structure to defend the area and keep everyone safe.
After the fiends retreated into the lower planes, many of the people who hid here decided to stay amongst their people, but the majority of them went back to their old homes. The Derrian Empire used the discipline they had used during the sundering to build up their empire much faster than the other kingdoms did. Many peaceful kings lived and died building the then kingdom of Derrisford, until the age of Emperor Tiberius Cestius or more commonly, Tiberius the conqueror. He hammered the Derrian military into shape and conquered great swathes of land from the Relonian monarchy. He would then reform the kingdom into the Derrian Empire with himself as the first emperor.
Culture
The Derrian people are a very communal society and are encouraged to work together to achieve new goals. They are endlessly ambitious and thrive on innovation. They are a thrifty people and have a bit of a capitalist society. They believe in the voice of the people so large enough factions will be granted hearings by the emperor and their wishes reviewed. In Derrian culture, the government is glorified and all are expected to serve in some form, be it military, law enforcement or civil service such as the building of infrastructure or the acquisition of food.
Assets
20,000 soldiers in the imperial legions, a navy of 250 ships and countless vaults of gold and platinum, totaling to about 1,000,000 pp.
Territories
The Derrian empire controls land on the western coast of Brenaurus from as south as Vanesse to the River Tolrania, they also exhibit control over the waters off their coast for many miles.
Military
The Imperial Legions:
The military of the Derrian Empire is well disciplined and well supplied. It has a rigid hierarchy where disobeying the chain of command can lead to execution. The military hierarchy and the forces they command is as follows.
Below all these ranks are the basic soldiers. They are only referred to by their names or simply ‘soldier’
Corporal - a soldier of a higher rank, but without any additional command
Sergeant - a squadron commander (usually 10 men but it can change for special or elite squadrons)
Lieutenant - an overseer of multiple squadrons, doesn’t actually command them in battle but coordinates between them
Captain - a platoon commander (5 squadrons)
Fist - a company commander (5 platoons)
High Fist - a battalion commander (4 companies)
High General - a legion commander (5 battalions)
The Derrian Empire has 4 main legions, they are as follows in the order of least to most prestigious. The Imperial Shield is a legion that has the main purpose of defending the imperial lands so they are currently positioned in the area around Leonlach citadel, ready to respond to threats all throughout the empire. The Ashford Marines is a legion situated along the Tolranian border and the river around there, they are known for the raids they perform around the Tolranian border and their prowess in naval engagements. Dheor’s Might is a reserve legion that is relatively new in founding but is supported by war priests that are supposed to be very potent. They are garrisoned in Greydon citadel and wait to be called on for war. The most prestigious legion of the empire is The Emperor’s Sword. It is currently situated in forts along the border to the Relonian Monarchy and was the legion that won many battles during the Derrian Invasion.
Each of these legions has their own type of specialist soldier. The Imperial Shield has ballista guard, which operate heavy war machines to fire huge bolts. The Ashford Marines has their marines, which are lightly armored shock troops. Dheor’s Might has their war priests which cast spells and fight with morningstars. The Emperor’s Sword has their Cataphracts which are far superior to the standard imperial cavalry. The rest of the imperial military is made up of legionaries, auxiliaries (light infantry), crossbowman, and light cavalry. Their military is also supported by multiple elite squadrons for special tasks. Battalions are each equipped with a permanent support mage which supports troops and uses magic for communication. Legions have specialized squadrons of clerics who use their magic to heal the seriously wounded. The high generals of the 4 generals are as follows:
General of the Imperial Shield Gaius Aquila
General of the Ashford Marines Dominus Vestinus
General of Dheor's might Titus Thalna
General of the Emperors Sword Lucius Crus
The Police Force:
In addition to the legions, the empire is policed by Derrian marshals, which journey between imperial towns and villages, enforcing the law. They usually train the militia as they go to have some sort of defenses while they aren’t there. When someone is caught thieving or there has been a crime committed, villages send for marshals from their nearby bases, which are in the 4 major cities and also littered throughout the rest of the empire. Larger settlements have permanent garrisons of auxiliaries and sometimes even legionaries. The police force is coordinated by the minister of defense, which is currently held by Cornelius Syra.
There also exists a more secretive police force known as the spectres of Knoln which takes out threats to the empires power while also acting as protectors for important imperial soldiers. These spectres are highly trained and are deployed all throughout the empire as bodyguards, spys, keepers of the peace, and assassins.
Religion
Derrians worship Dheor, the god of honor. Their religion is relatively informal apart from praying occasionally and going to church. They mainly don't think about it much, except for trying to be slightly honorable and using divine magic in times of war.
Foreign Relations
The Derrian empire has established cordial trade agreements with the continent of Jezait. The Jezait dominion is one of their closest allies and they constantly trade goods and technology. They are on hostile terms with the Relonian Monarchy and the Kingdom of Tolranina, as they have set a very expansionist policy and have invaded land in the past.
Trade & Transport
The Derrians trade mostly with themselves and overseas, exporting to places in Jezait and the Iashi islands. They mostly use standard transportation but they also occasionally use teleportation magic for more prominent figures.
