Genasi

Long ago, during the great scourge, many elves retreated into the feywild in an attempt to avoid the horrific wars that followed. Elves, being of fey blood, had an easier time passing over than other races but nevertheless, required powerful magic to pass between the planes in such large numbers. Powerful rituals were performed which transported large numbers of elves into the feywild, but not all went as smoothly as could be hoped. One of the elven mages who was performing this ritual was taken upon by the power of a wrathful elemental entity, Xolethar, the primordial king. This ancient being, birthed by the the explosion of elemental magic, had long dwelt in the shadows, jealous and bitter of the gods and their paradise. He twisted this mage and shifted the threads of magic wove into the ritual. The thousands of elves were scattered throughout the elemental planes, the fey blood in their veins shifted and changed by the vast quantities of elemental magic that tore through them. They arose, the genasi, a quazi elven people who dwelt on the elemental planes. The genasi adapted quickly to these new realms, moving to colonize them and erecting great cities among the planes. These cities grew relatively large and prosperous, considering their environment. But the rulers of these cities found themselves under the watchful eye of the primordial king, their moves influenced by his dreadful gaze. The genasi are divided into 4 types based on the plane that the initial malfunction of the spell dropped them in. These different types wield different varieties of elemental magic based on the plane they are native too. The air genasi are a wandering, go with the flow type people. They are ever changing and can change their feelings about things on a whim. The fire genasi are passionate and energetic. They possess keener minds than most genasi and are the most organized and industrious. The earth genasi are stalwart and proud, they are willing to defend what is theirs to the last. The water genasi are mellow and peaceful, they are isolationists and hardly ever leave their cities on the plane of water.
