Dib'cramib — the Prophesied End of the World Myth in Ithan | World Anvil

Dib'cramib — the Prophesied End of the World (/dib'kraːmib/)

Dib'cramib is the legend of the prophesied end and rebirth of the all Ithan in the religion of Koaelore. It is said to have been first uttered by the First Augur of Koaelore — Azari Heede — on Tre, 1 Dying Season in the year 20 AF. There is a large, solemn event annually on each 1 Dying Season in many nations since the prophecy became widely known around 36 AF. This event is known as the Remembrance. It has become associated with remembering the dead as well as this prophecy.

Etymology

The word Dib'cramib comes from the combination of two words — "Dib", meaning "we" in Trinsian; "Cramib", meaing "darken" (root "Cram", meaining "darkness") in Trinsian. It translates literally to "We darken" when separated, and refers to a single stanza of the five-stanza prophecy.

The Prophecy

The prophecy is made up of five stanzas. Each stanza has four lines, and follows an ABCB rhyming pattern. Overall, the prophecy has twenty lines. The prophecy is poetic in nature, and exact meanings are not agreed upon by scholars, but it is generally accepted that the poem refers to the end of the world as well as its rebirth. The third line in Stanza One indicates that the event referred to may not be the first time the world has ended.

Stanza One

As it is now said
There shall come a day
Long future, long past
When evil comes to play

Stanza Two

And the fading love shall be
Awakened and struck down
The rift will grow
Gone shall be the crown

Stanza Three

The end of all is coming
The end of all is nigh
The light shall dim and we shall darken
All life shall die

Stanza Four

And the past shall we forget
But fret and fear
And blood red sorrow
Shall not be here

Stanza Five

Reborn we shall be
A light anew
The crown shall be had
Albeit askew
