Acrend

You'll not find better craftspeople anywhere else. I've seen a worker fold leafed gold into a butterfly and hand it over to an awestruck child as like they were wrapping a parcel.   — Phalva Geistelt - Travels Upon Eastern Seas, Ch. 3

My first sight of Acrend was looking up from my seasickness and over the rolling waves smashing into the black cliffs - the lights of Bhir Todir shining out from the hills above. I knew instantly that the stories were true and that I would see wonders of architecture unlike any anyone has seen in Unai.   — Dunhand Stromsson's trading journal

Geography

Acrend is a highly mountainous continent, with relatively small plains separating the mountains from the oceans. The coastline is long and jagged, with many wandering promontories making land journeys long, and often exposed to the elements from the ocean.   The limited fertile ground available near towns and cities is largely dedicated to farming. The towns and cities are usually sited on hillsides and even in the mountains to make best use of the fertile land that they have.   The long distances between cities often fighting through mountain passes, or along coastal roads upon sheer cliffs.

Fauna & Flora

Life on the continent is hard for those creatures exposed to the elements. As a result, the wildlife that exists is hardy. Sharp grasses hold onto windswept land.   Only the foolhardy or well prepared venture away from the towns and cities, as many people have been lost to the ever hungry beats that prowl the lands.

Natural Resources

Gold, silver, iron. They can all be found in Acrend in abundance. Some rarer minerals are also mined and used for their aesthetic value, and even some minerals with rumoured arcane properties.   Forests that once carpeted the lowlands have long since been harvested to feed the forges in times past before coal veins were tapped. Today very little woodland remains within easy reach of the towns and cities. The farmland is poor, and is barely enough to sustain the population.   Long-haired yaks are prized for their furs and hides, which are used in essential travel clothing.
