Auilen Arde Nontte, the greatest Monsterslayer

One of the most loved Rateidel folktale heroes is Auilen Arde Nontte, the greatest Monsterslayer the world has ever seen. While the tales about her and her adventures paint a grand picture of this perfect, invincible hero who went on these exciting, dangerous adventures to selflessly help the common people, sadly most of the tales that exist today are full of exaggerations and some are even completely made up. However, where these tales originated from, that person is a real historical figure, and the title she was given as well as her heroic nature all actually existed, long long time ago. Auilen became a legend for being the most accomplished monster slayer the Barrier has ever seen, saving countless settlements and individual people from certain death in monsters' grasp along the way. She was the kind of person who deserved to be remembered in the folktales long after her life. The tales also remember and emphasize where she came from. For her origins and the turning point in her life that caused her to change her ways for the better are probably the most inspiring parts of her tale. Because before there was Auilen Arde Nontte the Monsterslayer, there was a bandit by the name of Dintu.         Dintu was born into a bandit tribe that called themselves the Red Talons. Even as a child, she showed great skill in combat, though preferring to be swift and stealthy rather than using overpowering force. So it was no wonder that they started to take her along to the raids when she was still rather young; and she gladly participated for years in hurting and killing the innocents and stealing from them. After all, it was all she knew. Then came the raid that directed her towards a new course in life.           Her group had recently moved to new hunting grounds. They settled near a pass people traveled through to flee from a small town named Nontte that a monster had settled near and kept ambushing. The fleeing people were easy pray for the bandits. Until one day, as they had attacked yet another group, they realized that the monster had followed them. The monster attacked, killing bandits and commoner alike. It attacked Dintu, injuring her. As she lied there, unable to flee or fight the monster, she watched the other bandits either lie dead on the ground or flee caring only about themselves. As the monster approached again, eyes staring at her intensely, she was certain she was going to die. But then one of the townspeople attacked the monster, injuring it enough to chase it away. And her savior and the surviving townspeople cared for her and nursed her back to health.   The experience and the kindness she received from the people she had attacked shook her enough that she wanted to use her skills to help people like she had been helped. Repay the people who had shown her kindness, she slayed the monster that had plagued their town. Hunting the monster down taught her that she was good at it, and could use her skills to help others. She took a new name to hide away her sordid past (or to hide from her past), but also because she felt like she didn't even recognize the bandit she used to be anymore.
