Pen of Translation

Written by bwallace

This pen will translate whatever understandable section of text the user is reading into a language that may be known or unknown by the user.

The user merely must have the pen in hand with a blank sheet of paper, or other writing surface. The source material must be readable by the user, and close enough that they can read it with their own eyes - magical means of reading will not work. The user decides what language they would like the passage to be translated into, begins reading the source and begins writing as they read.

The writing surface will begin to fill with the translated version of the source material into whatever language they are thinking of. The user can write as fast as they can read, or as fast as they can write, whichever is slower.

The user can only write/translate for 1 hour straight before taking a 5-minute rest for their eyes and hand. If they are significantly interrupted during the translation session, they must take a break and start where they left off.

The user may use ordinary ink, but must have an adequate supply or the translation will stop.

The pen is app. 7" long, green and white, narrow and tapered. If it is broken, its power is gone.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The pen is created by imbuing the essence of a Comprehend Languages spell into the writing implement.

Raw materials & Components
Typically a Translator Pen is a thin instrument to allow for long-periods of use. It is often colored green and white, although it is uncertain why this is the case. Speculation is that it is some sort of side effect of the magic. It is made of wood, with a standard ink tip. Sometimes a metal cap is placed on the opposite end.
