Military: Skirmish

The party is attacked by a group of Mercenaries and child soldier slaves led by a member of the Black Dog Mercenary band. Their goals are to capture Anastasia alive and potentially take the rest of the party as slaves.

The party moves to engage the slavers hunting the Goliath child, but it soon becomes clear that the battle is not what it seems. The slavers' leader is a Human Black Dog Mercenary wielding a HUGE maul, and he crashes into the party like a thundering force. His thug lackeys move to engage as well, and soon the party finds themself in a shootout with the thugs and a hidden archer who lays down covering volleys of arrows. Legacy and his familiar muffins soon realize something is amiss with the goliath child, his wounds seem fake, and his chains are broken, worse still he holds a dagger behind his back. Soon after the trap was sprung, and more enemies jumped from their hiding spots. 4 warriors emerged, all wielding maces and battered mercenary leather armor, say one half-orc woman who gripped a crude-looking battle axe in her hands. Anastasia could recognize that these were young warriors despite their hulking size and advised the party not to outright kill them. The battle raged on, and soon only Anastasia was left against the young fighters, but with their elvish leaf-steal shortsword they managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. During the battle, it was clear that they were here with the primary objective of capturing Anastasia whom they referred to as the soul knife, but due to grit, strength, and luck, the mercenaries failed. With the battle won and the children knocked out the party returned to Hollow Oak. The party gave the children to the care of the Goliaths and local guards before heading to the tavern for some much-needed rest.
