FB05: The Chapel

The double doors open into a red-stone room with walls ornately decorated by inlayed white and turquoise coral in an aquatic-themed fashion similar to the hallway behind you. Approximately halfway across the room, several stairs lead to a raised platform on which there is a statue of what appears to be water in vaguely human form. You believe that the form is intended to be feminine, but its vagueness is sufficient to make that assumption unsure.   Surrounding the statue, and on the steps leading up to it, lie a multitude of skeletons dressed in slowly-disintegrating white robes. The way they are laid out brings a shiver to the spine. It looks like some sort of ritual sacrifice was performed here.
There are 10 skeletons in total. Each of them wears the same white robes. A DC 10 Investigation skill check can determine that all of them died without struggle, though their limbs are often twisted in a way that indicates that their death was agonizing (they poisoned themselves). A DC 12 Perception skill check (active or passive) will note that each skeleton wears a polished, white and turquoise coral ring. Each ring is worth 10gp (there are 10 rings in total).   Most importantly, the base of the statue of this water-being is inlaid with twenty different symbols. Any character that chooses to investigate the statue discovers these symbols automatically. Seven of the symbols have been created with turquoise coral, the other thirteen are of white coral. It is likely unknown to the players at this point, but these symbols are a key for how to climb the stairs in the Chamber of the Ruby Fish (9) without triggering the trap set to protect the fish.   The following is a visual representation of the symbols as they appear on the base of the statue and can be shared with players without issue:
