FB03: Scenario End in Iskatel: Fortunebound | World Anvil

FB03: Scenario End

It should be assumed that the characters are able to make their way back out of the underground level of The Forgotten Temple without issue. It is further assumed that the characters will return to the surface during daylight hours. However, if you are looking to add a bit more tension to the evening and take another 20-30 minutes of time, you might have the characters return to the surface late in the evening, just before sunset. You could then run a 'race against time' skill check encounter for characters to escape the ruins before night falls. If you're feeling particularly dangerous, you can even have the characters return to the surface at night and have to either stealthily avoid wandering undead or fight their way out to safety.   Once characters have left the ruins behind, they will be faced with the choice of whether or not to leave the Transcendent Circlet on the rock, as Aliandrasi requested.

Leaving the circlet on the rock

If the characters follow the request of the wood elf, they will find themselves rewarded. The next morning, after camping overnight (wherever they are, they do not need to be nearby the ruins), they will find a soft-leather messenger bag lying in the middle of camp. The bag has a green woven inlay that appears to be made of living plant-matter and enhances the bag with a series of delicate, interweaving patterns. If the characters open the bag, they will first note that it appears much bigger on the inside than one would first imagine. Secondly, they will find an assortment of potions (1 potion of each type for each character in the party), a coin purse containing gold coins from the ancient { Ireacht } civilization, and a single pink orchid flower.
  • The messenger bag is a bag of holding
  • 1 Potion of Lesser Restoration/party member
  • 1 Potion of Healing/party member
  • 20gp/party member
  • A pink orchid flower that is magically preserved to never whither or die, though it has no other magical properties or abilities

Keeping the circlet for themselves

If the characters choose to keep the circlet for themselves, they will not see or hear from Aliandrasi again. She will understand that the greed of humans (and other species) caused them to make a terrible choice and will blame herself for attempting to trust them. The Archfey that once owned the circlet is actively seeking it and will send followers to try to find and retrieve it. Further, magic-seeking creatures (such as the Nothic encountered earlier) know of the circlet and are also in pursuit of it. These realities can be used to inspire future adventure scenarios anytime you see fit.   The nature of the Transcendent Circlet is likely to kill any character who attempts to use it. That is purposeful. Do not just let a character live in an attempt to be kind to the player. The party is in possession of an item not meant for mortals. They should feel the dangerous consequences of such.

False Faces

While all of the scenarios released in this series are self-contained and can be used as stand-alone 'one-shots' or intermixed with scenarios of your own, they are also built to easily flow from one to the next in sequential order.   The next scenario will find the characters stopping at a lone inn set at a crossroads. A popular stop-over for merchants, adventurers, and other travelers, the inn is both large and crowded. During the course of the evening, the characters will find that not everything is what it appears to be at The Watering Hole as they dive into a night of plotting and intrigue.   False Faces will be an adventure scenario for 4-6 characters of levels 2-4 and will be published in late March, 2021.
