Lasra

About

Lasras are a Laeksiv native species, specifically they are isolated to the Laeksiv Island Chains. These volcanoes are an ideal habitat for the Lasras due to their fire affinity, but it's because of this that they're isolated on the island chain; they are unable to swim in the cold ocean waters.

Bizarre Anatomy and Origins

Due to the amount of Fae magic in the Laeksiv Island Chains, particularly because of their funeral rites some believe that the magic leaked out along the ley lines and into the elements, causing some species to be mutated by the fae magic. This is merely theory and hasn't been proven.   It is obvious that the Lasra look similar to river otters, and while they may be similar, they are not a direct sub-species. The phylogeny of this species is hotly debated in various papers to this day.

Fire Mane

One of the Lasra's main identifying and striking features is its fire mane, often called a fire-hawk. This is something that they can shut off to preserve mana. There are pinprick sized holes along the back where the mane appears to 'grow' where the mana reacts to air and their affinity.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Lasra are hexaped creatures with incredibly lean bodies. Most of their body length is comprised of their tail, which has a minimum of 5 black markings along its back. Each of the six limbs have a slight webbing and long nails, good for clawing and gripping uneven terrain.   Their fur is a deep red, with their underbelly a pale yellow. A stripe goes from the tip of their nose all the way down to the tip of the tail, in a deep orange and yellow shifting colour.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Lasra are omnivores, specifically avivore. This is due to the fact that they're mildly hydrophobic; they do not go near water except to drink and sate their thirst.   Their primary diet is eggs, but they will attack nesting birds if able to. They are known to crack the egg open to drink its insides, but there has also been reports of them cracking them on rocks closer to the heat of volcanoes and having them cook.   Lasra have a specialized pouch in their stomach, and often hide away eggs if they need to move away from the bird's nest to eat.

"Their original name is in Silvertongue, it means 'Little Trickster', basically." The Fae explained, thumbing through some books. "If you head up to any of the Bastair volcanoes you might be able to find some, if you really need photos of them for your paper."   The elf nodded vigorously, their curls bouncing as they did. "I want to try to get some, at least. Maybe interact with them if I'm lucky."   The Fae glanced up. "Well, just remember they're called tricksters for a reason. They've pulled people into lava pools thinking they can swim with them."
