Grace Falls

Brief

Grace Falls is a settlement in the middle of Erbar. Its namesake, Grace Lake, is nearby and is used in their logging endevors. It is constantly dealing with Leaf Clan raids and harassment due to the theft of the bloodkeeper's land by humans. The town is infamous among bloodkeeper and their kin for over-stripping of forest without care for the bio-diversity of the environment and barely replant what they cut.

History

A Rough Start

Originally, Grace Falls used to be a far smaller village, with an entirely different name and no link to logging. This village belonged to Leaf Clan bloodkeepers, but during the aftermath of the Bloodkeeper-Human War, beings--mainly humans-- moved in on the land and pushed the bloodkeepers out of the village and deeper into the forests of Erbar.

Concequeces

While It didn't happen right away, as time passed the town grew and stripped more and more of the forest. Their drive and hunger for more industry made them infamous for their lack of respect for the forest. Bloodkeepers and elves that opposed the logging practices begged them to replant to replace what was lost and it worked for awhile, but then they fell back in old habits.   It was then that the raiding started. Logging materials and tools were broken. Horses and means of transportation were set free or damaged. Bloodkeepers were caught and either kicked out, or dealt with physically, sometimes to the point of death. These raids caused gracelanders to erect a large wall and heavy gates in an attempt to dissuade attacks. It made them more difficult, but they are still common.

Defences

Gracelanders have had to use a portion of their industry assets to protect themselves from bloodkeepers and other species raiding their town. Using large logs, they have created a perimeter around the town, along with spikes to dissuade a climbing assault. This has also created a weakness in the fact that there are only two exit gates: one to the north and one to the south, along with a single non-walled space that allows a man-made moat access to the town where logs are floated in from.

Industry & Trade

Logging

Grace Falls relies heavily on deforesting and logging as its primary source of industry and trade. The settlement is surrounded by heavy forest, though they have left the greenery by their town and have instead spread out to the forest farther away.

Due to the massive loads of trees, travelling with them via vehicle is not cost-effective, and instead they do most of their business via the river running through their territory.

Timber Floating

To transport the cut logs, gracelanders will use timber rafting, or log driving. Both are cost-effective by using the current of the river to help guide the loads to processing stations down the path of the river. Once there, they are processed and brought through a man-made moat to a sawmill within Grace Falls.

A large bell rang out throughout the town, and people who were outside enjoying the day in the streets quickly moved indoors, their eyes full of panic.

Children were scooped up by their parents as someone called through the town, "bloodkeeper raid! Close the gates!!"

A lever was cranked as gracelanders worked to protect their people from the dreaded demons.
