Redstone

Crafted in ancient times by a lost empire in the south of Raiven, redstone is an incredibly rare artificial stone that resonates with magic energies. The greatest abundance of redstone known in the world is bound up in the strucutre of Redtower in the Axial Empire. The few portions of redstone found not bound in the tower that are currently known reside in Redtower for research purposes and Axia city itself for both research and the private ownership of the Emperor and a few city elites. Most magical researchers agree that redstone was crafted using Rinnemancy and as such the stone is virtually indestructible. It can be drained of the magical energies that resonate within it, but the stone itself merely falls dormant until more energies can be fed into it. This allows it to be exceptionally useful for implementing strong enchantments that require little maintenance. So much so in fact that non-mages are able to utilize them for convenience in daily life, hence the Axial elites acquiring a few stray pieces for private use. Since all known redstone was found within the borders of the Axial empire there's been no great conflict surrounding it, but as knowledge about it has spread there've been many attempts, both diplomatic and illicit, to obtain a sample of the stone. To date none have been successful. Likewise, many mages who have had the opportunity to examine redstone in person have attempted to replicate it through various means. None have succeeded in this endeavour, though the experiments have yielded both greater understanding of redstone, and by extension Rinnemancy, as well as other arcane rituals and enchantments. Redstone is highly stable when not actively in use, but can be made volatile through magical means. While it has never been used as a weapon to date, such research is quietly encouraged by the empire and seems to hold great potential for destructive capacity. Such details are, of course, kept quiet within the empire to prevent agitation among the nations.
