Day of Babies

The small village of Korim, nestled deep in the mountains of Forven northeast of Avalier on the shores of the Buranduir river, has a rather unique celebration of life. Residents in this tiny, mountian village do not celebrate annual birthdays as is common in most of Isesdan cultures. Instead, they hold a unique annual holiday known as Yuran Keld, the day of babies, on the Amaji 3. Legend holds that Yuran Keld marks the birth of the first child to survive when the village was originally settled. Before this birth, no infant survived the harsh world into which it came. It is said the babies before this point were eitehr stillborn or died within hours of birth. The people came to believe that Tyn had some sway over the mountians and that life could not withstand the frigid north. Dauntless, the settlers fought the cold and the ice and the hard earth of the mountians to make a home safe from all invaders. In the face of their tenacity it is said that Tyn and Amandas did battle in the heavens, raining fire upon the mountains about Korim. After this night, a human woman named Liravn grew with child. She and her husband prepared for the loss they knew was coming, but she remained healthy and strong where other expectant mothers had weakened in the face of the mountains. When her child came it was with a mighty roar. The fury of the child marked the survival not only of the babe, but of its mountain home as well. After this day Korim began to grow and though the elements remaied fierce and many would yet die, hope had returned to the determined people. To never forget the blessing of life and resilience that had graced their home the people agreed that all births would be celebrated on the day that marked the anniversary of their strongest child.
