Lad lived with and worked for his father, a scholar of some renown named Flint. He has a quiet life and was generally well liked in the village.
One day when he was cleaning his fathers workshop, he lifted an old inert rod his father had once told him had been magic. He had done this hundreds of times before, but this time was different. As soon as he touched the rod, he felt strongly, that he must hold on, and immediately swung the rod around and activated it on himself, and then on the room and the adjacent room in quick succession. He didn't know why he was doing this. He only knew that he must.
Just like that, the curse had fully taken over him.
