The First Guild
While her grandfather had given her the skills to survive outside of the protection of the city, she still often preferred the safety of the trades her parents had taught her. She continued apprenticeships and practice through many of her early years, barely an adult by
Human standards when she chose to branch out and join a guild that even her father had not been allowed in.
Tasrin soon became one of the youngest
Gem Dwarves to be admitted to the
Rubycrafters Guild, with the caveat that one day she would travel to the
Dwarven Kingdom in the mountains to complete her journey as a
Master Dwarf. Few
Gem Dwarves were ever admitted to the prestigious guild, even though the guild’s name would make one believe otherwise. This brought great pride to her family, brought greater respect for the Brightrock name, but it also brought with it great expectation.
Her earliest project as a guild member required a ruby of great size, one that could not easily be obtained through the shops of the
Pit of Amber. Instead, she would have to journey outside the city to mine the gem herself, taking part in each step of raw gem to finished pommel. Safety lay in numbers in Kato, so she invited Cormac, a
Dragonkin friend, to join her in the adventure.
The search for such a ruby would inadvertently lead them into a
Dragon's hoard, one being ravaged by the creatures that made the darkest shadows of
Káto their home. Few
Dragons lived in Kato, but those that did were often benevolent,
Dragons that did not lash out against those just wandering. With bow and sword, Tasrin and Cormac stopped the ravagers, barely surviving themselves but having accomplished something great.
The Second Chance
The hoard they had saved was that of an
Adamantine Dragon, one ancient and far longer lived than any of the
Dwarves in the
Pit of Amber. For their help, the
Dragon blessed them with a bit of her magic, a kernel that could be called upon in desperate times. The
Dragon also awarded Tasrin the ruby she had sought, but she found herself looking towards a different future than when they had first traveled into the dark.
I love her and her way of hoarding knowledge and skills. She sounds like a fun character to play, and I bet the adventuring life will help her on her journey to Master Craftsman.
