Rangers
Tradesmen of the Wilds
The wanderlust of the wilds calls to them, like a moth to a flame, a call answered by the heart and not the mind. It would be easy to say that their training amounts to little more than swords and bows, but that is not the truth when their profession is survival, not fighting or tracking. All of those things are part of answering the call, of having a heart that bleeds for the wilds while also understanding the civility of man. Those who take up their chosen weapon in the name of this call walk the line between two worlds, keeping both sides in check with their breadth of knowledge.
Rangers are people of the wilds, harnessing knowledge and a wide variety of learned skills to traverse the world in the least damaging way. Some days, the profession means tracking and surviving nights far from civilization, but others it means fighting for the morals and teachings instilled by the Huntress and Lycana, the teachings of nature and balance. These people harness a small amount of Green Magic to assist them in their endeavors, but it is only to call upon the aid of the world around them, the words of a fawn, the eyes of a bird, the stealth of a wolf.
Becoming a Ranger is often a profession stumbled upon, one taught as a way of life for certain peoples, not something learned in an academy. Some seek out the lifestyle of their own accord, but many find that the teachings of the goddesses resonate deep within their souls, leading them down a path to enter the wilds on an enlightened journey. While they may travel unattended, they are never truly alone.
Career
Qualifications
There are no defined qualifications for being a Ranger as there is no formal schooling or learnings that lead one down this path. The teachings of Rangers and the words of the goddesses they follow are often passed down by word of mouth, exchanged between one who has heeded the call and one that is just beginning to hear it. Because of this, little more than a sense of morality joins Rangers together, as each has learned differently and come to the call at different points.
Certain areas of the world, especially in @kato, utilize Rangers as protectors due to their knowledge of the wild and survival. These areas may require certain qualifications as these Rangers are more organized, but often the newer generation is taught by the older generation that is currently holding the position. This method of passing on knowledge also keeps any formal qualifications from being too strict.
Perception
Purpose
Rangers serve as experts on various wild areas, terrains, and creatures throughout the world while also being extremely proficient in survival skills and stealth. If one is to travel through unknown territory, it is best to employ a Ranger so as not to be knocked off course or be hindered by whatever may cross their path.
These people are also known for their strong morality and reverence for the world around them. In many communities, their breadth of knowledge along with good judgment makes them leaders with their people’s best interests at heart. Where Scholars are not prominent, Rangers are revered for their knowledge.
Social Status
No matter where throughout the world, Rangers are highly respected as they choose to not only protect and help others but to keep the balance with the natural world. Their movements and choices are often in harmony with the wilds and the wild goddesses that they follow, allowing them to bridge the gap between civilization and nature. Even without a great deal of magic, they are considered highly educated and knowledgeable about topics that many know little about.
