Task Force Phoenix engages Remnant forces around Aslief.

Aslief was first identified by reported Lily Davis, doing a story on the communication techs on the south pole. An idle terminal suddenly came to life, and she had a long conversation with the ruling aristocrat there- who bemoaned his world being extorted for both human and resource capital. The Remnant had been emptying prisons there for some time, conscripting those behind bars into their army. Eventually, those sources of recruits ran dry, and press-gangs ran amok.   This slavery was a process Greenbriar could not permit to continue, and Task Force Phoenix rallied a fleet to head to the system, hoping to put a stop to it.   The task force materialized at the edge of system space, as prison ships were loading the last of their cargo. On the planet below, the Remnant ground forces had begun a full attack on several cities, as the planetary government finally decided to say no to the increasingly burdensome demands.   The Task Force Phoenix fleet quickly deployed dropships, and moved into position to engage the small escort fleet left to cover the slave ships. Teleport boarding actions were undertaken, and the ten strong ship security details on most vessels were simply not up to task at stopping commandos and a light mech rampaging through their central bays.   Disabled ships were slowly subdued, with crew surrendering, though the fights were not always clean. One highly controversial episode still being looked at with scrutiny is where surrendering Remnant crew were vented into space by the captain of the Southern Belle, despite mostly being slaves press ganged from elsewhere.   At the Praxia orbital defense base, Commander Cole, the local liaison, was besieged by a superior force working to wrest control of the planets ground based nuclear missiles away. Saul, and the shock squad of Task Force Phoenix descended as the battle in space began. A tense fight, involving a stolen tank, and waves of reinforcements saw the base decimated, but most of the weapons secured.   Santee and LaCrosse were both almost totally ruined in the fighting. Cove Neck also saw severe ruin- heavy guns used at almost point blank to bring down the buildings.   The psychic academy on world was also a primary target for attack, Silvano managing to stop a mindhunter squad on planet with his mech, though most in the academy were killed by an errant rocket drifting away from his mech and hitting the building. The handful of survivors were evacuated and are now living in the Greenbriar Academy.   A cache of terrifying technology was discovered during the battle, Seung and Silvano having a tense run in with psionic dampening silver dust, that fowled even the most powerful psychics connection to MES. Quick thinking, and some excellent wilderness survival training from Seung saw the two go to ground safely. Dust removed, the two re-entered the city, wiping out the prong of the attack there almost single handed.   The battle lost, and fast corvettes bearing down on them, the Remnant captains did the only thing they were ordered to do in that situation, and massacred the slave population taken from the world, denying Greenbriar potential future human capital.   Captured Remnant assets were brought into the fleet, and returned home to Greenbriar, to be put to use against their former masters
