Pre Ad-Astra: The world was plagued by warlords. Numerous powerful men and women control private armies sufficiently strong to cow whatever local government may exist. On the lands they claim, their word is law. Most spend their time oppressing their own subjects and murderously pillaging those of their neighbors. Most like to wrap themselves in the mantle of ideology, religious fervor, or an ostensibly legitimate right to rule.   The world's government is fully aware of their local stellar neighbors, but the common populace has no idea about it, and the government means to keep it that way. Trade with government officials in remote locations is possible, but any attempt to clue the commoners in on the truth will be met with lethal reprisals.   Ad-Astra later would claim governorship over the planet, bringing it into the United Nations of Worlds. The four countries have agreed to work together, with their resource war over, and as a result the populace has become aware that they are now part of something far bigger.   In January 2668, Governor Shriven commissioned the Psychic Academy to undertake a stellar engineering project using their combined telekinetic powers on the large asteroid belt in the system. These rocks were compacted into a planet that is mineral rich, though bombarded almost constantly by micro-meteors left behind from the geologic shaping. Sumati II currently has no development on its still forming surface.   May 2668 saw the survivors of the First Etxaurren War return from Brizeno with 20,000 Zadak natives onboard. The locust-humanoid like aliens are the first to inhabit Sumati II, where Governor Shriven hopes they can once again find peace.

Sumati-2

August 2668 brought The Conjunction, where psionic life giving energy was re-directed from a draining Aliah to Sumati 2. Images and memories of Nosh-Zadak were invoked, and the planet is beginning to flourish with new life thanks to the sacrifice of the Jademane. The Zadak are adapting to the changes on their new garden world, and have thus far not attempted wider communication. It is rumored their own spirit guide and shamanic figures have a vague idea of what has happened.   November 2668 saw the first Jademane survivors brought to Sumati 2, where they and the Zadak have formed a bond- both races now orphans on a new world they are trying to understand.   In April of 2670 after a long and high risk voyage south to Etxaurren's forest moon, a Jademane warrior named Syringa and a Zadak hunter named Nazarene restored the ceremonial totem to its place of promenence in the Zadak community on Sumati 2. An excerpt of the event is below.   Syringa and Naz are a flurry of activity as they jump right to work alongside the rest of the village. Channeling the memory of her dear father she gets the various teams organized on their specific tasks.   Several hours later, Naz and Syringa are standing on the lip of several meter deep hole that will act as the footing for the totem. They organize a bucket line to begin dumping uncounted kilograms of rocks down into the pit. The work is long and backbreaking, but with the Totem just mere meters away and hours from being put into place, few can feel the pain and those that do, keep it to themselves.   Once she determines there is indeed enough rocks in the pit to act as the stable base, Syringa and others pile into the pit and tamp down the rocks as best as they are able. They jump up and down, stamp their feet, dance and sometimes use other bigger rocks to smash the others down. Whatever they can do to ensure that the base of the totem cannot sink further into the earth once placed... Years ago...   Little Syri is standing next to her father as they are looking to sink a new post for their village wall. After carefully digging the hole by hand, the handful of Jademane are standing next to the pillar that will anchor the rest of the wall that will protect their village from wayward creatures. "Dig the footing far below what you think you will need. The weight of the earth will hold it in place against strong winds."   That same pillar would hold her as she would climb the walls of their village. The same pillar would help hold back wayward Tuskers looking for an easy meal. "The safety the wall provides can only be guaranteed if the wall is well anchored." Her father would say   ...   Naz and Syringa head back to the shuttle after taking a small break for food and water. Syringa coordinates with the pilots and load master to perform the reverse of the actions taken back on Brizeno's moon. The first part would be getting the totem out of the shuttle.   With the helping hands of many Zadak and the coordination provided by telepathic communication, the team slowly but surely guides the totem out of the shuttle cargo bay and down the ramp on carefully placed floater rucks and with strategically spaced grav handles.   Over the course of the next hour, the totem is carefully led so that the base of the totem hanging over the lip of the pit that was dug for it. Unseen telekinetic hands wrap the various cargo straps around the core of the totem and are hooked up to the base of the hovering shuttle. Practiced precision of the Ad Astra pilots gently lift the top of the totem off the ground. Teams on the ground hold the base in place so the totem can stand upright without sway all around.   Naz, Syringa, The Survivor and other Zadak guide the base of the Totem to the center of the pit and keep it that way as the shuttle pilot slowly lowers it into place. With a satisfying crunch of rocks and stones, Syringa signals to the Pilot to hold position. The bucket brigade of rock porters begin the arduous task of filling the hole with the rest of the rocks they have gathered. Surely there are very few stones smaller than a basketball anywhere near the Zadak village with how many they have gathered.   The pile of stones, pebbles, and small boulders dwindle down as the hole is filled with alternating mixes of rock and dirt. Eventually they are able to fill the pit and then some. Logs are rolled in and use to tamp down the top of the soil near the base of the totem. Packing it down as hard as they can to keep the totem in place for generations to come.   When the last log is rolled away, Syringa undoes the cargo straps from the top of the totem and the pilot carefully floats the shuttle away from the center of the village.   Everyone holds their breath. Hoping. Praying that the totem stays in place. It is a long few minutes until there is a collective sigh among the Zadak people and the first cheer springs forth from the crowd.   Syringa and Naz embrace and shed tears of joy at the return of a precious artifact to its rightful place among its surviving people. "She Who Asks Why The River Flows" breaks out into a dance around the totem. A simple one that expresses dedication, rebirth and community. She chants a traditional Jademane song that talks about a spiritual connection between a people and the land that sustains them.   As she finishes the dance in front of the Zadak Chieftain she bows and speaks loudly, "Honor to the Zadak. May this world keep you and sustain you. May the soil nourish your collective soul. May the trees provide safe harbor during the storm. May the Zadak grow strong and be guided with this totem at the heart of your community!"
