A Contest of Dynasties

A Contest of Dynasties is the title given to a piece of Slyth drama meant to be performed by a troupe of actors on stage. This play was notable for the large number of actors required to perform it, its very long running length, and perrenially timely nature of its content.   The play is a drama about the rise and fall of several great Slyth houses, with the Slyth gods also present- played by comedic actors sitting in the boxes on each side of the stage balcony. These comedians serve as commentators, speaking to a 'camera' that is not there. The play is long, composed of several acts detailing the houses and petty dramas of each dynasty, with the point largely that each generation thought themselves enlightened and above the struggles of the past, only to fall for the exact same situations, hook , line, and sinker, proving that they were not as intelligent or different as they believed.   Around the time of the great freeze, there was something of a cultural issue in Slyth society where a new playwright wanted to revive the production and update it to include the most recent few dynasties, but the current ruling class was trying to suppress the production amid popular uproar.   Post-Scream with the collapse of both the Slyth Empire and its ruling bodies, the play has been performed several times by the few thousand Slyth survivors on the colony world of Iaria. It has come to be treasured as one of the Slyth race's few surviving cultural touchstones.
