Empire of Storvia

After the Dragonian Empire fell apart during the Great Rebellion, the Storvian Empire has risen to try to unite the Lands of Iromar once again. The Empire of Storvia is however not ruled by Dragons as the Old Empire but instead ruled by Men. Emperor Sigmund the Wise currently sits on the Black Throne in the Imperial Palace of Carrano wherefrom he rules the Empire.  

The Great Duchies

The empire is divided into numerous great duchies controlled by great and lesser houses. Some houses are ancient while others came into power fairly recently. There also exist several houses that do not control any territory - primarily based in the capital and operating as great merchant houses. The great duchies can be divided into three factions: The Traditionalists (prefer things to stay as they are or are loyal to their own self-interest), the Loyalists (recently gained power by being granted it directly by the emperor or close friends to the emperor), and the Radicals (unsatisfied by the rule of the current emperor).  

The Duchy of Freefield

Summary: Freefield is often considered the breadbasket of the capital. Situated on open green grasslands with the river Carr running through the duchy bringing nutrients and water from the mountains.   Leader: Lady Isolda the Calm   Speciality: Agriculture & Horses   Faction: Radicals  
 

The Duchy of Carmar

Summary: Carmar is located on a major trade route between Carrano and Tur Goldam - the capital of the Golden Kingdom - also serves as an important trade hub between the dwarves of the Gold Mountains and the capital. The duchy is famous for the hunts arranged by Sir Mordred who is a close friend of Emperor Sigmund the Wise. Sir Mordred is also a Marshall of the The Silver Knights where he administrate the Silver Citadel in Carrano.   Leader: Sir Mordred the Huntsman ("Mordred and Sigmund were squires together back in their youthful days in the Silver Knights" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Hunting & Trade   Faction: Loyalists  
 

The Duchy of Davenport

Summary: Davenport is famous for its shipbuilding and its large carpentry and woodworking industry using timber from the Wicked Woods. Sir Ulrik is renowned for his skills as a shipwright and he has personally had a hand on most ships sailing around the Iromar Isles.   Leader: Sir Ulrik the Unsung ("Ulrik has an extreme dislike of bards and music - apparently his wife left him for a gnome bard " - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Shipbuilding & Wood working   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Lovestrong

Summary: Lovestrong is renowned for its colourful textiles made by talented tailors and an expansive dye and textile industry. The duchy is also known for its significant gnome population who introduced the textile industry to the region and have since become powerful and rich merchants and craftsmen.   Leader: Lady Bella the Beautiful ("Although undoubtedly beautiful, Bella is also terribly vain - she is also my best friend" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Textiles & Dyes   Faction: Radicals  
 

The Duchy of Grimmere

Summary: The deep forest of the Thornwoods hold many secrets including many great beasts, monsters and rare herbs that have helped fuel a thriving alchemy and leatherworking industry.   Leader: Sir Geraint the Grimm ("Geraint is a great drinking buddy of mine and also an excellent storyteller" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Leatherworks & Alchemy   Faction: Radicals  
 

The Duchy of Antonia

Summary: The valley of Antonia used to be its own independent kingdom before it was conquered by the Empire and thus have a largely distinct culture compared to nearby Imperial regions. The duchy has close ties to the dwarves in the surrounding Gold Mountains which have helped fuel a booming metallurgy industry. The region is also famous for the quality and uniqueness of its smelly cheeses.   Leader: Sir Anthony of Antonia ("Tony is an ambitious hothead but he also has a kind heart - he is also still unmarried which means he gets a lot of attention in the royal court" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Metalurgy & Cheese   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Blackway

Summary: The Blackway has long been a neglected region of the Empire to its large swamps and inhospitable climate. The city of Saltmarsh in particular has seen some rough time being frequently raided by the Sea Princes and Orc Raiders. Due to the region being left in a desolate state for too long a booming smuggling industry has grown out of the mud and coastal waters. In recent years the Duke of Willingwe has started putting pressure on Bedivere on forcing Imperial authority into the region to try and limit organized crime stemming from the region.   Leader: Sir Bedivere the Bland ("Do not trust his bland appearance and demeanour, Bedivere is a cunning snake that always seems to be scheming something" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Fishing, Peat (and Smuggling)   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Willingwe

Summary: Willingwe used to be an independent kingdom much like Antonia and have always been a prominent force on the ocean. The famous Wyvern Fleet has port in Bornaro where it serves as an important hub for trade between Ganzhou and the Empire as well as a significant deterrent for the Sea Princes and Orc Raiders from the east. The current duke of the region is a close advisor to the Emperor who has also appointed Sir William to be the Admiral of the Imperial Navy.   Leader: Sir William the Wounded ("If I didn't know any better then I would have mistaken Sir William for a brute sailor" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Trade, Salt & Shipbuilding   Faction: Loyalists  
 

The Duchy of Witt

Summary: The marbled walls of the castle, as well as the cathedral of Witt, stand as a symbol of the piety of the people of Witt. The goddess herself is said to have blessed the region with bountiful harvests and wildlife.   Leader: Lady Hilda the Hallowed ("One of the most pious people that I have ever met - she spends as much time in the church than she spends time governing the duchy" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Marble, Carpentry & Husbandry   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Richpool

Summary: Richpool has a long and rich history as a powerful and bountiful region placed between the Principality of Quzhou , the Kingdom of Calteria, and the Empire. The regional capital of Nonia is also famous for its vinyards and delicate wines.   Leader: Lady Felicia the Fair ("Felicia is known for her generosity and hospitability but also for her beauty even in her elder years" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Wine, Agriculture & Trade   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Combria

Summary: The region of Combria is primarily known by the elvish Hidden Kingdom of Combria - but the duchy itself is also a regional capital of trade between the wood elves, the Dragonians of the Kingdom of Calteria, and the humans of the Empire.    Leader: Sir Francis the Fine ("Sir Francis is an ambitious philanthropist who always seem to have a new idea in the oven" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Trade, Clay & Timber   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Huntingwood

Summary: The duchy of Huntingwood was established during the reign of the previous emperor after he launced a bloody conquest of the outskirts of the Hidden Kingdom of Combria. The wood elves and the Imperials of Huntingwood are still in conflict and frequently skirmish in the outskirts of the forest.   Leader: Sir Henrik the Harsh ("I would not dare be left alone in the same room as Sir Henrik - he has a morbid sense of humour and is possible sadistic" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Leaderworks & Hunting   Faction: Loyalists  
 

The Duchy of Blanke

Summary: The duchy of Blanke was founded by a union between the wood elves and the humans of the coasts. Together they built the Kingdom of Blanke where skillful elves and innovative humans built gems and jewelry of great renown. The Empire conquered the region but the people are uneasy about being Imperials and about their racism towards elves.   Leader: Sir Andreas the Otherwolder ("He is a bit of a weird one - do you know what he means by things being 'too meta'?" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Gems, Jewelry & Elvish Goods   Faction: Radicals  
 

The Duchy of Smallmond

Summary: The Smallmonds were once part of The Merchant League but was conquered as part of the Combrian Conquest by the Empire. Unlike other regions of the Empire, the population of smallmond is a mix of halflings and forest gnomes with only a small populace of humans.   Leader: Sir Castor the Caster ("Castor is an excellent illusionist that actually helped found the University of Carrano in his younger days - he is also the only gnomish noble in the Empire" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Trade, Agriculture & Gnomish Goods   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Murkwood

Summary: The region of Murkwood have always been poor and neglected by both its leaders and the Empire. Unlike other adjacent duchies the former king of Murkwood voluteered for the kingdom to join the Empire in the hope that it would help develop the region and bring much needed trade and resources. Rumors have it that witches and other evil fey creatures lurk in Mirkwood and lure unsupecting travellers into their snare so most prefer to travel via the sea. A unique moss called Glowmoss grows in the region and is used in everything from fuel to illegal substances.   Leader: Lady Maria the Mellow ("Maria is slothful and always seems to be under the influence of some drug or another" - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Fishing, Herbs & Glowmoss   Faction: Traditionalists  
 

The Duchy of Feathergard

Summary: The Feathergards have long served as a shield between the wood elves and the kobolds in the Dark Kingdom of Mantia as well as a close trading partner with the Dragonians of the Kingdom of Calteria. The region was significantly fortified after the Empire conquered the region to protect from the kobold hordes and the occational dragon raids. The region has a significant populace of Dragonians that have migrated from the mountains.     Leader: Sir Faenor the Fey-Touched ("Sir Faenor is a noble knight and is also the northern-most marshal of the The Silver Knights who legend claims to have visited the Feywild through the Hidden Kingdom of Combria where he became trapped for years." - Lady Isolda)   Speciality: Trade, Weapons & Dragonic Goods   Faction: Loyalists
