The History of Irion so far
An ancient civilization of an AS YET UNDETERMINED SUBTERRANIAN SPECIES once dwelt under the Iron Hills. Miners occasionally encounter long abandoned mining tunnels, and those who return from expeditions exploring such tunnels tell stories of vast caverns, sophisticated but largely unknown architecture, and ancient temples, and occasionally bring back artifacts of remarkable power. However, few return from these expeditions, and most mines in the last several centuries take the cautious approach and seal off access to these ancient mines.
Current Species & Cultures
The Iron Hills have been occupied for centuries by a variety of cultures, and first came under control of the Kinilan crown nearly a thousand years ago. Many wars have been fought over the territory in the centuries since, but none have been nearly as bad as the recent war with Chelestra.
Needs & Relations
Kinilan and Chelestra are both desperate for resources. With the loss of the Iron Hills and their mines, even common metals like iron have become expensive - by the end of the war, both sides would loot the bodies of the fallen for any metal - from armour plating to brass buttons - to reforge into new equipment. Both are large and powerful nations, run ragged from maintaining a total war economy for decades, and are now short on nearly everything, even food. One widespread failed crop would be enough to tear either country apart as splinter factions fought over what little food reserves were left.
