Xuthein

A game played by Elves to imrpove battle skills and to anticipate attacks.

History

Xuthein began as a training exercise among the ancient Elven houses, showing studends new manuvers at a slowed pace and how each manuver had advantages and disadvantages. The exercise would often involve two students being instructed on how to attack and defend, executing each manuver slowly and without wavering from their orders. this became a sort of game among the students who would use the exercise away from their masters, two students quietly giving instructions to two other studends who to determine which warrior had the supperior tactical mind.

Execution

training weapons are used, as the weight and heft of a weapon doesn't matter during the exercise, it is purely a tactical thought experiment. which way would a warrior attack, where they would lean and pivot. each begins with the captains determining who begins with advantage, allowing them the first attack. the captains quietly give their warriors orders for their first manuvers, how to defend and attack for the given round. this repeats until one gains advantage, and presses that advantage to victory.

Components and tools

full armaments and weighted sticks are used, though sometimes dulled weapons are used in place of training tools.

Participants

the two players who determine the outcome of the fight are reffered to as captains, while the players who execute the manuvers are reffered to as the warriors.

Observance

various versions exist, each with a number of different rules and number of judges, the most popular one involves a trio of judges. a friend to each of the captains, and another impartial judge who knows neither.
