History

In the days before history was written, Edaranas was nothing more than a lonely mountain standing tall against the northern winds. It was during the First Age, in the year 500, that Tharin the First, the first dwarf and the first living being to set foot on Araska, laid eyes upon the great peak. He knew, at that moment, that it was destined to be the home of his people. With his kin at his side, Tharin began the great undertaking of carving a city into the mountain’s heart, shaping what would one day be known as Edaranas—the Jewel of the North and the seat of dwarven power.

Though Tharin did not live to see the stronghold completed, his descendants, the Greataxe Clan, carried on his legacy. For centuries, they delved deep into the stone, carving mighty halls, vast forges, and an underground kingdom befitting their ancestors. The city flourished, and with it, the nearby settlement of Beorn was established along the river and lake, allowing the dwarves to trade with humans, elves, and other races of Araska. Edaranas was the heart of dwarven culture, a testament to their craftsmanship, resilience, and pride.

However, this golden age came to a fiery end.

At the height of its power, Edaranas drew the attention of a young red dragon named Ashraad. With fire and fury, Ashraad descended upon the Greataxe stronghold, beginning his conquest by slaughtering the people of Beorn before turning his wrath upon the capital itself. The dwarves fought bravely, but they were no match for the dragon’s relentless assault. With their city in ruins and their halls lost, the Greataxe Clan was forced to flee, leaving their ancestral home behind. Edaranas became a tomb, filled with the bones of fallen warriors, while Ashraad made the mountain his lair, ruling over it as a king of fire and death.

But fate had other plans.

In the year 7000, Ashraad made a fateful mistake. For reasons unknown, the dragon left his mountain lair and traveled West, where he set his sights on the city of Fan'dori. There, he tricked a group of mercenaries to bring him the Quierness, the daughter of the Quier, ruler of the North, thinking himself untouchable. But in his arrogance, he underestimated the determination of those who he tricked. The group of mercenaries—her guardians—pursued him across the lands and into the depths of Edaranas itself. There, in the great halls of the dwarven capital, they waged a final battle against the ancient beast. After a long and grueling fight, Ashraad was slain, and his reign of terror was ended at last.

With the dragon’s death, the Greataxe Clan wasted no time in reclaiming their home. Under the leadership of King Tharin Greataxe the Third, they returned to Edaranas, breathing new life into the mountain halls that had long been shrouded in darkness. With its forges reignited and its people once again walking the stone streets, Edaranas stands at the dawn of a new dwarven age. The halls of Tharin the First have been restored, and under the rule of King Tharin, the dwarves of Edaranas look to the future with hope. The Jewel of the North shines once more.
