Phlegethos

Phlegethos is the fourth layer of The Nine Hells of Baator. It is a blazing desolation of fire and lava.

Geography

The layer's climate resembles the Elemental Plane of Fire. It is dominated by a scorching heat that ignites the air itself, creating seemingly sentient and aggressive flames that leap at visitors but not at its denizens. The ground has fissures that spew jets of flame that flow into rivers of liquid fire. It contains numerous volcanoes whose eruptive products flow through rivers of lava into an incandescent ocean of magma.
