Mars

Geography

Mars is a hot arid planet well known for its red surface. The surface is mostly barren with the plains being mostly uninhabited. A few cities and small settlements are located in the mountain regions. The majority of life on the planet is located in extensive underground caves. These caverns are connected to the surface by smaller tunnels but the deeper caverns are large enough to fit whole cities.

Ecosystem

The surface of the planet features desert ecosystems both plains and mountainous regions. Oasis' fed by water seeping up from the ground are rare but feature unique plants and animals found no where else on the planet. Mars also has extensive underground caves with the same warmth as typical of the planet but with higher water availability. These warm humid caves house the majority of the plant and animal species. These caves are large enough to house a few large bodies of water that contain the few larger aquatic species. Mars is protected by a thin atmosphere which is rich in various gasses that reflect solar radiation back to the earth as heat giving the planet its characteristic hot climate.
