Lesser Amphithere

The Lesser Amphithere is a medium sized winged lizard found on the planet Mars. It is found around desert oases and is a scavenger by nature. It feeds on leftover carcasses and smaller animals. What makes the Lesser Amphithere dangerous is its extremely venomous bite and its perchance for striking unexpectedly from hidden places if it feels threatened. They are non-venomous and hunt by constricting their prey until it suffocates and carrying it into a tree or high cliff to finish the meal. They can pose a threat to unwary travelers by dropping unexpectedly from above. However they are small enough that a full grown Martian is not suitable prey. Most often they only attack when startled or threatened.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Lesser Amphithere has a body like a snake with wings about one third of its body length from its head. It has no other limbs and moves by crawling across the ground. The Lesser Amphithere has two claws on the knuckle joint of its wings which allows the creature to latch onto sheer surfaces and prey.

Ecology and Habitats

The Lesser Amphithere prefers to live in trees or near cliffs and ravines. They need high places to hunt from and to hide in. They are capable of building nests in these high places to raise their young.

Additional Information

Domestication

If raised from an egg it is possible to keep Lesser Amphitheres as pets. However, they are uncommon and keeping wild caught animals is extremely difficult.
